Every year at Thanksgiving a common practice is to go around the table to say what you are thankful for during the year. This year should be no different as a time of refl ection and thankfulness and downtown has a lot to be thankful for as we look upon the different projects and revitalization efforts over the last decade. • First to start at the beginning, we are thankful that the powers-that-be recognized the importance for revitalizing the heart of our City and the national trend to keep the downtown area as a cornerstone for economic development and tourism. • We are thankful for the pioneers who weathered major changes downtown with streetscape efforts, the closing and opening of Hay Street, the building of Festival Park and other areas, underground power lines and more as downtown has transformed over the years. • We are thankful for the stores, restaurants and businesses that have made downtown their home including the new ones that have opened in this past year including The Sweet Palette,Mojoe and Jack's Comics and more! • We are thankful for ParkView, the 300 Hay project and the growing number of residents who have committed to living downtown in condos, townhouses and apartments that surround and are above most businesses downtown. • We are thankful to our two major festivals, the Fayetteville Dogwood Festival and the International Folk Festival, that liven our streets and bring national awards home to us and the other events and activities which offer entertainment for our City on a weekly plus basis including Fayetteville after Five, 4th Friday and the like. • We are thankful to the sponsors, artists and everyone who supported the Whimsical Dogwood public art project and for naming it the Best Local Community Project this year! • Thankful for our new events that brought fi rst time visitors to long-time residents downtown including the Dogwood Fall Festival with the fi rst ever Food Truck Rodeo, the When Pigs Fly All American BBQ Festival and 5K and the All American Marathon. • We are thankful that the great state of North Carolina decided on downtown Fayetteville as the site for the world-class NC Veterans Park. Since its opening three years ago, it has brought thousands upon thousands of people to our City to enjoy. • And last, but defi nitely not least, we are thankful for YOU, whether you are a downtown customer, client, resident, business owner, property owner, guest or visitor. Without your support, downtown would not be the crown gem it is today so THANK YOU! Don't forget to join us for A Dickens Holiday, a Fayetteville favorite event, on the day after Thanksgiving on Nov. 28 and for Small Business Saturday on Nov. 29, your opportunity to show the nation that our small businesses downtown matter to you!
