A unique basketball game will help to raise money for another sports team at Chase High School this weekend. The Trojan Wrestling Team will host a Donkey Basketball game Saturday beginning at 7 p.m. in the school's gymnasium. The event will serve as a fundraiser for the team, said Coach Adam Dedmon. "I believe this was last done in the 90s," Dedmon said. "It was a new way to raise money for the team, which has 40 kids on it - it's one of the larger wrestling teams in the county." Donkey basketball is just like regular basketball, Dedmon explained, except everything is done while players ride on a donkey. "You have to be on the donkey when you make a shot for it to count," he added. Dedmon has recruited a variety of local celebrities to take part in the game - including recently re-elected Sheriff Chris Francis (a Chase High graduate), Forest City Police Chief Jay Jackson and Rutherford County native and Houston Astros Baseball Player Tyler White. "It's just a fun way to have a good time and support the team and maybe show some school spirit. And folks playing basketball on a donkey's back … it just doesn't happen every day." Advance tickets to the game are $6 for adults and $5 for students, and are available at the front office at Chase High School. At the door, tickets will be $8 for adults and $6 for students.
