September 7, 2011 Free Movie Night at Town Park Sat. Sept. 17 Join neighbors, family and friends on Saturday, September 17th for a fun and relaxing evening at the FREE Movie at the Park. Starting at 6pm, there will be free water slides for the kids. Hot Dogs, Frito Pies, Snacks and Drinks will be available for purchase. Classic Cartoons will be presented before the feature movie. SOUL SURFER is the inspiring true story of teen surfer Bethany Hamilton, who lost her arm in a shark attack and courageously overcame all odds to become a champion again, through her sheer determination and unwav- ering faith. The PG film features an all-star cast, including Anna Sophia Robb and Helen Hunt, with Carrie Underwood in her film debut, and Dennis Quaid. In the wake of this life-changing event that took her arm and nearly her life, Bethany's feisty determi- nation and steadfast beliefs spur her toward an adventurous come- back that gives her the grit to turn her loss into a gift for others. Bring your chairs and blan- kets for a night at the movies at Quartzsite Town Park. www.DesertMessenger.com Parker Public Library will be CLOSED Sept. 12th – Oct. 13th The Town of Parker received CDGB grant funds and contacted the Ameri- cans Disability Act to bring the Town buildings up to code. They found that 7 out of the 9 rooms at the Parker Public Library have asbestos in the ceiling. As a result, an asbestos removal crew will be brought in. The Town of Parker received another grant, the Brownsfield Grant to pay for that project. Before the asbestos crew can remove walls, ceilings, floors and doorways, the library must have all the materials, shelving, decorations, chairs, tables, office machines, and computers removed. This job will be the responsibility of the library em- ployees with the help of volunteers, public works, and hopefully, trustees. ADA will then come in and start recon- structing bathroom, counters, circula- tion desk and the drinking fountain. After this is completed a construction crew will put up ceilings, walls, floor- ing, and doors. Lastly, library em- ployees, volunteers, public works, and trustees will start the long process of putting back shelving, materials, deco- rations, chairs, tables, office machines and computers. This is NO easy task. We, at the li- brary, are asking for your patience at this time. We will open the doors as soon as it is safe for our patrons. The tentative date for reopening is Oct. 17th.
