Rutherford Weekly's Favorite with M.A. ANDREWS I've just got to start with the South's all time favorite. One of the best is Red Velvet Cake. Here is a great recipe from MRS. FADIE BRIDGES. 2 cups sugar, 1 1/2 cup Crisco, 7 eggs, beat one at a time, 2 teaspoons vanilla, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 3 cups plain flour, 1 cup sweet milk, 2 bottles red food coloring. Mix as any pound cake, and bake at 325º for 1 1/2 hours (I used my Bundt pan). ICING: 1 box pow- dered sugar, 1 - 3-ounce package cream cheese, 1 stick soft butter, 1 teaspoon vanilla. Mix and spread over cooled cake. Nice presentation and from a Bundt pan it looks special. I'm going to the kitchen and getting ready to bake. The school is going to have a bake sale and so I'm going to make some cakes! Let's turn on the oven and get started. With the holidays coming up you might want to make one of these for the family! I'm gathering today's recipes from Ellenboro's Bethel Baptist Church's "Forward By Faith" cookbook! It has a lot of tried and true recipes. Red Velvet Cake There you have it! I'm going to get a glass of tea and sit on the front porch and relax. You, yes, you need to "get in the kitchen and show the love!" Here is TENNESSEE WILSON'S recipe. 1/2 pound softened butter, 1/2 cup shortening, 3 cups sugar, 3 cups plain all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon (scant) baking powder, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 5 large eggs, 1 cup milk, 1/2 teaspoon each: vanilla, almond and lemon extract. Beat shortening, butter and sugar thoroughly. Add eggs one at a time. Add milk and flour alternately, beating well after each. Add fla- vorings: stir again. Put in well greased and floured Bundt pan and bake at 350º for about and hour. This is a terrific pound cake. Pound Cake DESSERT DESSERT Before you make any judgment about the next reci- pe, you must realize that the very popular Dr. Pepper drink is made from prune juice! So, give this moist and delicious cake a try. It is so very good. BRENDA TONEY gives us her recipe for Prune Cake! It's is a delicious surprise. 2 cups self rising flour, 2 cups sugar, 1 cup oil, 3 eggs, 1 teaspoon allspice, 1 tea- spoon cinnamon, 1 teaspoon nutmeg, 2 jars baby food prunes, 1 cup chopped black walnuts. Mix all ingredients with a spoon or spatula, NOT a mixer. Bake in greased and floured Bundt or pound cake pan at 350º for 45 minutes. Wait at least 10 minutes to take it out of the pan. A great cake and the black walnuts make is super special. Prune Cake DESSERT Now that the cake is almost out of the oven, I going to make a great pound cake or any cake. Let me give you a tip. When using lots of eggs in a cake, take them out of refrigeration and let them come to room temperature.
