The Arts Council and the Downtown Alliance take you back to a time when the pace was slower, and the best way to get around was a horse and carriage. Historic Downtown Fayetteville will be transformed into a quaint village as merchants decorate for the holidays - Victorian style. Harry Myles, Fayetteville PWC Conservation Specialist Q: Harry, is there a way to make my heat pump more efficient in the winter months? My bill and usage are at their highest in January and February. Anna M., PWC electric customer for 22 years A: Excellent question Anna! Heat pumps are a great way to stay warm when the temperature drops outside, but it's typically not the heat pump itself that drives winter usage up. It's the emergency or auxiliary heat. The emergency heat runs when the outdoor temperature dips below 38 degrees or when the thermostat inside changes by more than 2 degrees. One way to ensure that your heat pump runs more efficiently is to reduce the amount of time the auxiliary heat is on, and try not to set the thermostat back or make a temperature change of more than a degree at a time unless you know how to override the emergency heat. Remember to set your thermostat at 68 degrees or lower to save additional cash, change your air filters when recommended and have your system serviced yearly by a qualified technician.
