The Texas Alpha delegation outworked all other chapters, resulting in both candidates winning. It marks one of the few times in Phi Psi history that two brothers from the same chapter are serving on the Phi Kappa Psi National Executive Committee. Congratulations, Scott and Tom! Below are the brothers who made the trip. William Cobb '62 Values Texas Alpha Mentors A s members of Phi Kappa Psi, brothers have access to valuable mentors. For William Cobb '62, his Phi Psi mentors were instrumental in creating a solid foundation that helped him create a successful career. Bill received his undergraduate degree in aerospace engineering while serving the chapter as social chairman, vice president, and president. Right away Bill found Phi Psi mentors who focused him on "developing campus contributions that made me a candidate and then a member of the Texas Cowboys." Bill credits Phi Psi for prompting him to join the inter- fraternity counsel and for progress in the campus AFROTC, where he commanded the drill team and then became the corps commander. He joined the USAF as a regular officer and received his MBA from Ohio State while stationed in Ohio. During the Vietnam War, Bill was an Air Force project manager, where his duty was to provide specific weapons to the field. A consulting job with Touche Ross, now Deloitte Touche, brought him back to Houston where he earned his CPA. Soon after, Bill joined a former client in business as COO for four years, and in 1978 founded his own consulting firm, Cobb Consulting, with clients throughout the U.S., Canada, and the UK. Throughout the years Bill has remained active with Texas Alpha in hopes that he can mentor collegians the way he was mentored. "I have been back to campus as the engineering counsel representative and president of the Texas Cowboy Alumni Association. I am proud of the members of the fraternity who have become Texas Cowboys and Silver Spurs. There was a great party at the site of the new house, and I went by and told the young men how proud I was of them and the brothers who are making success happen." Bill advises undergraduates to continue Texas Alpha's tradition of mentoring. "Look at your opportunities on campus and in life. Make a contribution to the university, not just to your fraternity. Make a difference in the lives of the younger people on campus. Then, when you go into business, choose the best supervisors to mentor and train you. Do not go for the money, go for the training." Many of Bill's mentors have turned into lifelong friends, like Bill Matthews '58, Bill LaFont '59, John West '60, Jack Irwin '62, Pat Moore '62, and Glenn Wilkerson '62. Bill lives in Houston with his wife of 48 years, Nancy. They have three daughters: Marlo, Haley, and Caroline, and nine grandchildren. In his free time you can find Bill snow skiing, bird hunting, and playing golf. Contact Bill via e-mail at cobbwc@msn.com. Recipients of Phi Psi's Tex Schramm Scholarship. Texas Alpha awarded $15,000 in scholarships, ranging from $750 to $3,000, to 12 outstanding new UT freshmen. Visit the website at: texschrammscholarships.com.
