The past few months have been busy for our brothers completing summer internships, summer classes, studies abroad, and beginning the fall semester. The last few weeks of the spring semester were hectic with events such as Greek Week, our annual fundraiser, and plenty more. Over the year we placed near the top in every intramural sport and even took home the basketball championship. RANKINGS SAE ranks 11 out of 28 IFC chapters on campus. Our performance versus other semesters is about one point less than fall of 2012. However, we've added approximately 80 men since then with various majors. Nonetheless, our chapter initiatives to improve include pairing with sororities and having an award incentive to improve individual G.P.A. We've also raised the minimum G.P.A. requirement and have won the Stuart Zoock Outstanding Advisory Board Award. PHILANTHROPY In fall 2013 we participated again in St. Jude's Up 'til Dawn in which our brothers split into teams to raise money for St. Jude's, a hospital that needs close to $1 million a day to operate. For the second year in a row, SAE raised the most money out of every group that participated, a collective effort which resulted in over $10,000 raised for the hospital. In the spring we had our largest annual event, Puck Off Cancer, in which we raised over $3,000 for Huntsman Cancer Institute. Mike Wilk '13, our previous philanthropy chairman, said, "As a chapter, we take pride in the diversification of our service and philanthropy events in the community, on campus, and at national levels. Our ability to continue to expand events such as Puck Off Cancer and Up 'til Dawn is a testament to the quality of the leadership within our chapter." ALUMNI EVENTS Over the year we hosted a handful of alumni events: Homecoming, chartering, Founders' day, and our second annual golf outing. We greatly appreciate the participation from all the alumni and continued support as we grow. We love to hear the endless memories from alumni and their time well spent in SAE. We're hoping to contact many more alumni and rekindle the everlasting relationships that may have faded. RECRUITMENT STAYS STRONG Despite the changes in national recruitment bylaws, we still believe we will have a strong turnout of potential gentlemen. We have quickly risen to become a top fraternity on campus, and while there may be a surplus of potential new members, we have a phenomenal recruitment team that has created plans to find members who will sustain the path of progress we are on. NEVER COMPLACENT As you can see, the Michigan Gamma Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon will never be complacent. Although we won the Colony of the Year award last summer, our sights and goals will be placed higher. We have men leading various groups among campus, earning awards, and constantly making our chapter stand out. Michigan Gamma sends men to every province and national leadership school, with men also attending the new national EA institute. We will press on with this trend and won't stop until we've become a Zeal chapter. Lastly, I'd like to thank each and every one of our alumni for their continued support. Without it, our chapter would not be anywhere near where it is today. Our men will continue to earn what you do for us, and we'd like to sincerely invite you to drop by our new house for a visit. Fraternally, Matthew Thornburg '16 Eminent Archon thornb36@msu.edu SAE has become a top fraternity on campus. Brothers around the world. Matt Thornburg '16 and Al Howard '15 at Stonehenge.
