Undergraduates Achieve Leadership and Philanthropy Goals A lpha-Phi Zeta continues to be one of the better fraternities at the University of Alabama. Last semester our Fraternity achieved an overall 3.03 GPA due to the academic dedication our members have shown. Our GPA is higher than both the all-male average and the all-fraternity average on campus. This spring, housemother Becky Schuler was recognized at the Order of Omega Awards for House Director of the Year. We are thankful for all of the dedication she shows. Alpha-Phi Zeta continues to build a better presence on campus. This fall, we will be tailgating at the house for most of the home football games, so feel free to stop by, grab something to eat, and see old and new friends. We are collecting canned goods to donate to the West Alabama Food Bank as part of our national affiliation with Feeding America. Our Chapter continues to earn recognition as one of the strongest Greek organizations at the University of Alabama. Membership is strong at 118 men, including 40 new associate members. I'm especially proud of the Chapter for raising their overall GPA to 3.03. Well done, young men! Summer Chapter House Updates The House Corporation was hard at work this summer making improvements to the Chapter House. Member rooms were painted and deep cleaned, our composites were repaired and are now securely locked to our walls, our dining room tables were refinished, the deck was repainted and sealed, and new wrought-iron patio furniture and front porch rockers were purchased. In addition, we redecorated the upstairs media room with furniture especially selected by Brother and Mrs. Tom Lackey! We installed a snack center upstairs, obtained a new self-serve soda station, and remodeled the shower room in the new wing. We are very fortunate to have Becky Schuler as our housemother as she was directly responsible for bringing all the maintenance efforts to a successful conclusion. In fact, you will read about her recognition as one of the best in Cory's letter. Thank you, Becky! Of course, the welcomed donations from several brothers were an enabler to our continued efforts to ensure we have top- notch facilities to make our chapter a strong competitor on campus. Thanks! Homecoming Festivities Homecoming is set for November 22 vs. Western Carolina. I hope you and your family will plan to join our celebration at the Chapter House. With the new SEC network, there is no telling when kickoff will be planned, but rest assured food and fellowship will commence three hours prior to kickoff and I hope to see you there. In closing, this is my last newsletter as House Corporation president. I have been involved in our House Corporation since 2001 and have enjoyed the honor of serving during some of our most challenging and successful years. The Chapter today is so much stronger and is poised to stay strong. This is directly related to the unwavering leadership and support provided by our strong and dedicated alumni base. So many of you have served in leadership and donated your time and your treasure to give our undergraduates a solid base of support. This challenges and supports our young men to grow and strengthen our presence at the Capstone. I challenge you to stay involved, be vigilant in your support, and remember we are proud Alpha-Phi Zeta Lambda Chi Alpha brothers for life. Fraternally yours in Z.A.X., William V.
