Main - Quartzsite (one block east of Family Dollar) 928-927-6551 The Desert Messenger offered local candidates the opportunity to address its readers. These questions were asked of ALL local-race candidates. THE QUESTIONS ARE: 1. How do you plan to communicate with constituents? (email, social media, webpage address, phone, newsletter, etc.) 2. What separates you from the other candidates running for that position? 3. What's your vision for the offi ce if elected? 4. What is your plan of action to accomplish that vision? Quartzsite Town Council: Hal Davidson Town Council 1. My door is always open to concerned citizens and I believe the Town should have an offi ce designated for its elected offi cials where the public can have ac- Local candidates answer questions cess to me during posted hours. I can be reached at halmd@tds.net or (928) 916- 2888 and out in the community at large. 2. I am not a cause of our current problems and I have the knowledge, ex- perience and leadership to help guide us back onto the path of fi nancial sta- bility. The primary responsibility of the position is fi nancial oversight, which in recent years has been abdicated to management. Unlike the incumbents, I will ask hard questions about how your money is going to be spent and demand budget transparency, responsibility and accountability from Town staff. I want to return to the policy of approving checks before they are signed instead of two weeks after they are mailed out, and ap- proval of the Council should be required for spending money on professional ser- vices as it was before. I will never vote to illegally supplant HURF funds or al- ter public records to benefi t my politi- cal associates, and I will not abuse the power of the offi ce to target citizens just because they disagree with me. I will conduct the people's business in plain view instead of the back room, unless required for legal confi dentiality. 3. My vision for Quartzsite is a fi - nancially stable Town with a business friendly year-around economy. A Town that is safe, fun, and affordable to visit and call home for families, retirees and working people alike. I envision a com- munity where water and sewer rates are fair and reasonable. A community where people are assured by the pres- ence of law enforcement, not fearful. A Town where offi cials work with the public to resolve issues instead of pun- ishing them. I look forward to a Town that has overcome its current dysfunc- tional government and whose national reputation is restored. I want this to be a place that people tell their friends about and nobody rolls their eyes. My vision for the offi ce is one of a facilitator for much this needed positive change. 4. What is your plan of action to ac- complish that vision? This is about public service, not private agendas. I'm only one vote but "it takes a village", as the saying goes. I want better communication with the public through community outreach such as town hall meetings, public work ses- sions on key legislative proposals, and a monthly Town newsletter. I would like the Town to have a presence on the Internet via social media platforms so that information can be provided with- out unnecessary delay. Terry Frausto Town Council 1. E-mail is tfrausto1151@gmail.com. Facebook page is "Terry Frausto". Phone is 623-203-8877. Please give me your in- put. This is about the town and what you think it needs and everyone is important. 2. I have no special agendas. I am not seeking the position to help myself or my friends to meet their own political agendas. I am a person that truly loves the community and the people in it. I feel that everyone should be given the truth and I won't lie to you to fulfi ll my own agenda. Everyone should be treat- ed equally and the same and everyone has the right to be heard. My plans are for everyone to benefi t. 3. I think that the council needs to stop fi ghting and work together. The constant lawsuits because they can't get their own way only hurts the communi- ty and increases the costs for the town to run. We need to work on developing the Town. The only way to cut cost is to increase the growth. Yes, you heard me right. The more people to share in the cost of running the sewer keeps the rates lower or from increasing. Every- one will benefi t from growth. 4. I believe that the council should meet together and set a plan of action. They need to decide how to create growth for the town. They need to get good public- ity out there and try to combat the trash that is out there on the Internet. If we get us to look better and do more pro- motions we will increase the amount people to show up for the vendors. We need to bring in steady businesses like manufacturing and warehousing that work year round and provide a steady income at a higher wage for the people that work here. If we do this there will be construction for the contractors who live here, the RV Parks will be full year round. Restaurants will be full year round. People who live here and work will have a good income and more busi- nesses will open. This creates a higher tax revenue for the town which helps the community as a whole. Our council gets paid and should work for the mon- ey. They should work for you. Carol Kelley Quartzsite Town Council 1. I prefer face to face. But will do any communication they are comfortable SEE CANDIDATES PAGE 14
