F A L L 2 0 1 4 | NORTH BAY WOMAN 23 the day that comes." After the Avon walk this summer, the doctor and patient spent a weekend unwinding at Calistoga Ranch. On a sunny Saturday afternoon, they dangled their feet into the pool and tried to make sense of it all. "Special people are not always long for this earth," Munster said. "I would not want to miss knowing you," Munster said, "even though I know you won't live forever." Two months later, Munster called Lis with welcome news. "The cancer in Lis's liver had disappeared," Munster said, and the hot spots on her bone were gone. "If I were there I would take out a big bowl of ice cream and sit by the pool," Munster texted Lis later, "and chat through the night." The Future When Lis was first diagnosed, she feared she wouldn't live to be 40. When she turned 40, she worried she wouldn't make it to 50. But late this summer, Lis reached that mile- stone birthday she shares with her eldest son, David, 21, a student at Middlebury College in Vermont. With friends gathered at Lis's child- hood home overlooking the lagoon on Bolinas's Horseshoe Hill, they celebrated. All three sons were there, including Paul, 18, who has just entered his first year at Colorado College, and Andrew, 16, a junior at Tamalpais High. There were games and toasts, laughter and hope. ■ Above: A toast to friendship at Lis's birthday celebration at Bolinas with Paula Reynolds of Mill Valley, Lis and Cathy Steck of Belvedere. • Locally Owned • 5860 Paradise Drive, Corte Madera • 415-924-5100 • www.marinacura.com Debi Stevens-Byrnes Owner and General Manager of Marin Acura Invites you to experience the New 2015 Acura TLX Sedan Impressive and Powerful!
