Like us on Facebook O-TOWN SCENE Coming Events Carpenter to sing at Belleayre Five-time Grammy Award winner Mary Chapin Carpenter will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at the Belleayre Music Festival. The country singer will bring more than two decades worth of music to the stage, featuring a blend of country, pop and rock tunes. Carpen- ter became well- known in the music world in 1989 with her second album, "State of the Heart," the Norwegian film and television industries. Others featured will include the more tradi- tional classic works of Paul Thermos, Ludwig Wilhelm Andreas Maria Thuille, Milan Igloo and Jacob Clemens Non Papa. Admission donations of $10 per adult and $5 per student/ senior are requested by not required. The venue is on West Main Street in Stamford. Her 1992 album "Come On, Come On" sold five million cop- ies and features track such as "I Feel Lucky" and "Passionate Kisses." On her next release, 1994's "Stones in the Road," she scored a No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks (now Hot Country Songs) charts with the single "Shut Up and Kiss Me." Brass quintet to play in Stamford As part of the Friends of Music 25th an- niversary season, the Bombastiq Brass Quintet will take to the stage of the Frank W. Cyr Center at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21. Presenters said, "These seriously talented professionals usually provide a bit of comic relief in their programs," with their show Sunday titled "Music by Composers with Silly Names." Composers fitting in this category include Jolly Kramer-Johansen, grandfather of group leader Karl Kramer, who created music for 22 O-Town Scene Aug. 18, 2011 fomstamford.blogspot.com. One-man show, Celtic group set for theater Two events are planned for this weekend at the Oneonta Theatre, 47 Chestnut St. in Oneonta. Author Jim Mullen will take the stage in his one-man show, "Where's My Jetpack — What Happened to the Future?" at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19. Mullen writes a weekly syndicated column for United Media and wrote Entertainment Weekly's "Hot Sheet" for 13 years. His new- est book is "Now in Paperback!," a collection of Mullen's favorite columns. Tickets are $10. This event will be followed by the Tartan Ter- rors at 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21. The group will present a mix of Celtic music, comedy and dance. It features a two-time world champion bagpiper, drums from around the world and the Highland Dancers. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel said of the group: "This energetic and multitalented group mixes traditional Scottish music with rock and typically Celtic sense of mischief and fun."
