Page 3 ALUMNI NEWS (Continued on page 4) Beta Omicron Pushes Men to Succeed Why Mark A. Womble '70 Values His Membership F raternity men strive to live by higher ideals than the average college student. Members of Beta Theta Pi go one step further and work to be Men of Principle who live by shared core values. Mark A. Womble '70 chose to join Beta Omicron Chapter because in recruitment he could see the members of the Fraternity were more in line with his personality and approach to college life. Mark credits Beta Omicron with helping him succeed in college. "It made me balance my social activities with my need to get an education. The support of people in the Fraternity helped me accomplish graduating," shared Mark. While he was studying as a finance major, he served as the social chairman and planned many memorable events, including a toga party and a beach party. After graduation, Mark worked as a real estate agent in Houston for a short time before going to law school in 1971 at St. Mary's in San Antonio, Texas. Today he is an attorney with a title insurance company. He believes the secret to success is hard work and getting along with people. Through the Fraternity he made great friends, whom he remains close to today. Mark has constant contact with many of his Fraternity brothers, including Mike Schuck '70, Bo Brown '70, Bubba Fitzpatrick '70, Rick Chambers II '70, Louis Baldwin II '70, Mac Churchill '72, John Cunningham '70, Buddy Hudgins '71, and Don Roberts '69. They keep up with one another via e-mail and phone and have a golf trip once a year. He believes it is important for all alumni to stay close to one another "because we aren't going to live forever and good friends are very important in life." Mark is optimistic for the future of Beta Omicron. "I hope that we can pull it together and generate enough interest and backing from alumni to recreate the Chapter and bring Beta Omicron back to UT-Austin." In his free time, Mark enjoys golfing and collecting vintage blues 45 rpm records. He and his wife, Jo Ann, live in South Lake, Texas.
