T here have been two events since the spring 2014 Lion Tattler. ILBE Executive Council and Alumni Advisory meetings were held in July and August. The first meeting was held at Arlington Race Track on Saturday, July 19. Special thanks to Brother Jerry Gust '78 for suggesting the venue. It was a delightful day and the surroundings were conducive to our meeting and both the executive council and alumni were able to watch a few races when the meeting was over. Alumni attending were Ed Hansen '87, Gregg Werner '77, Tom Jepsen '76, Greg Martin '76, George Havel '79, and Jeff Price '78. Highlights of the meeting: • The chapter completed the spring 2014 semester probation period without incident. The current suspension is scheduled to expire in January 2015. Their G.P.A. is now above the all-men's average. Paddy Murphy and other fundraising functions raised $18,000. Proceeds have been donated to the American Heart Association. • The chapter will begin with a positive cash balance. Social fees were reduced, due to social probation status, however, they were not suspended as philanthropy budgeted expenses come from the social budget. Brother Evan Lee '17 reported on plans for education under the TGE program. Monday chapter meetings will review the education materials to be covered during the coming week. Scheduled events will be established to present the history, ritual, and other educational materials. There will be three ILBE attending leadership school. • Scholarships for spring semester are waiting to be issued to the highest G.P.A. from each class. The question was posed for future consideration, whether scholarships should be awarded for not only academics, but also for highest number of hours for philanthropy, community service, and general Phi Alpha. The second meeting was held at 211 East Daniel on Saturday, August 23. This was a great session to kick off the new semester with the new ILBE leadership team! Alumni attending were John Epifanio, Gregg Werner, Tom Jepsen, Greg Martin, Doug Fink, George Havel, and Jeff Price. The members of the chapter moved into the chapter house ahead of schedule this semester to be better prepared for recruitment. Special thanks to F&H for their help and support. Recruitment events included p i z z a n i g h t , s p o r t i n g events, and a barbecue. Our recruitment program emphasizes camaraderie of the members, and our goal is to achieve quality over quantity with 35 to 40 new initiates. Sunday, September 14, was the official end of recruitment with initiation set for the following Tuesday. RealPage, our financial service provider, has been replaced by www.Bill.com. Gregg Werner, Tom Jepsen, and Jeff Price all offered to assist in interpreting financials and setting budget goals. Plans for implementing the True Gentlemen Experience are underway. The chapter meetings will contain the education plan for the week, the new membership will travel to other members' locations, and we plan to introduce the True Gentleman big brother program this semester. Power point presentations and other tools are to be utilized on the website. Once again, the alumni sponsored registration for five ILBE members to attend leadership school. Unfortunately, due to summer jobs and internships, only three brothers were able to attend. The brothers shared their experience with the group. The new ritual and True Gentlemen Experience programs were reviewed and guidelines provided. The brothers passed the information on to the executive council and reviewed their experience at the first chapter meeting. Overall, we are happy with the progress the chapter has made and are looking forward to a successful fall semester.
