The award is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting. The award names County Manager Amy Cannon as the finance officer responsible for preparing the award-winning CAFR. Cannon was deputy county manager when the CAFR was prepared and became county manager June 9. Cannon, Assistant County Manager for Finance and Administrative Services Melissa Cardinali and Finance Department staff were recognized by the Board of Commissioners at the Sept. 2 regular board meeting. "This award recognizes the hard work and professionalism of our Finance Department staff and I am very proud of their efforts," Cannon said. co.cumberland.nc.us Finance Department Receives Award Plan Ahead For Disasters As hurricane season peaks, Cumberland County Emergency Services officials remind citizens that now is the time to plan and prepare for emergencies and disasters. Emergency Services Director Randy Beeman encourages citizens, schools and business owners to make a plan and routinely test it with other household members and staff. An emergency plan is a list of details about where to meet, how to get in touch with one another, evacuation plans, what to do with pets and how to notify employees after an emergency. Items that should be included in an emergency kit are: enough water for each person to have one gallon per day for three to seven days; battery-powered or hand-crank radio; cell phone with charger; first-aid kit and first-aid book; manual can opener for food; anti-bacterial hand wipes or gel; cash; prescription medication and glasses; extra house and car keys and copies of important documents such as insurance policies, driver's license, Social Security cards and bank account.
