20 SEPTEMBER 17-23, 2014 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM MEDIA MEDIA Best Area TV, Traffic, Weather WRAL 2619 Western Boulevard, Raleigh, N.C. 919.821.8555 or 800.532.5343 www.wral.com For many years local residents have bemoaned the fact that Fayetteville doesn't have its own television station. During that time, several Raleigh chan- nels have duked it out to see who could win the hearts of our community. And with your votes, it appears that WRAL has won. Based out of Raleigh, WRAL has its own offices here in Fayetteville and does a bang up job of covering not only Fayetteville news and events but also sports. Also, with their cameras located all over town, they can give residents up to date traffic and road condi- tion reports due to weather. WRAL may not be local, but they have surely put their hearts into winning our community over. Best Local Columnist Hal Broadfoot, Attorney, Fayetteville Observer Columnist Hal Broadfoot Jr. is a local attorney with the firm of Beaver Courie Sternlicht Hearp & Broadfoot. Broadfoot has worked with the firm since the summer of 2000, after his first year at Campbell University Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law. During his second and third years at law school, he did occa- sional research projects for the firm during the school year; he also clerked there in the summer after his second year. In 2002, after graduating from Campbell, he joined the firm as an associate and was admitted to the North Carolina Bar. But Barefoot lives a double life. By day, he is a by-the-book legal eagle partner but, at night, he takes a walk on the wild side. Wait, before your mind goes off in the wrong direction, we are talking about wild-life. For years Broadfoot has been writing a monthly column in the Fayetteville Observer, "About Birds," about the wildlife found in this community. It has become a favorite among local residents. Broadfoot is an amateur ornithologist and writes about what he knows best…birds. He has grown up studying the birds around him and shares his hobby and passion with the residents of Fayetteville and Cumberland County. He is a long-time Kiwanian and has served as a board member of several civic and cultural organizations, like Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra, The Arts Council, and SALT (Sandhills Area Land Trust). He regularly speaks to local organizations about topics including birds, nature and history.
