Best Use of Local Tax Dollars Education and Libraries Education and libraries go hand-in-hand. While the Cumberland County Schools are doing an amazing job in educat- ing local children, as noted by national awards received by the system, our libraries do an outstanding job in providing resourc- es to help them further their understanding of topics they are studying in school. Beyond that, the library offers tremendous assets not only to school-aged children but also for adults. The Cumberland County Public Library & Information Cen- ter plays a critical role in economic development. It provides valuable services to people looking for employment and job skills enhancement, and guides those pursuing educa- tional advancement. The library's Job & Career Resource Centers provide help with career exploration, filling out applications, resumes, interview tips, starting a business, grant opportu- nities and much more. Resources for the mili- tary include how to apply military experience in transitioning to the civil- ian work force, along with spousal employment assistance. Additionally, like the schools, the library plays a key role in enhancing the life of our citizens through its many and varied programs that range from storytelling festivals, creative writing workshops, author visits and even music programs that range from classical to Bluegrass. Most importantly, for the citizens of Cumberland County, all of these resources are free! Visit any of the eight library locations and find out for yourself how they are changing lives and build- ing communities.
