Best Local Musician/Band Erik Smallwood Erik Smallwood has been playing live music for more than 15 years, eight of them full time! About three years ago, Neil Ray joined him and together the two have been wowing Fayetteville crowds with their unique blend of country, southern rock and soul. Smallwood describes his music as: Country and Soul. Two great ingredients for rock and roll music. The sound is infectious and passionate. Some blues, pop and a little Muscle Shoals flavor. Smallwood is a five-time Carolina Music Award Nominee, from Muscle Shoals, Ala. He grew up playing music in his church, and gradually began writing songs to express the various events going on in his life. He moved to North Carolina in 2006. He has won the 2012 Carolina Music Award "Best Country Male" and 2012 Best Of Fayetteville Award "Entertainer of the Year." While Smallwood's Fayetteville fans can look for him at local venues, he also travels full-time around the Southeast and beyond, relentlessly spreading the music and making a name for himself. "I like to see smiles, and hear people sing along. I do whatever I can to make sure nobody leaves (a show) with regrets… although that is impossible, I try my hardest!" said Smallwood. "I've been doing this for more than 15 years and we've been doing whatever we can just to make it more of an experience than the typi- cal night-after-night bar/club/restaurant music." Fayetteville music lovers agree and have voted Smallwood the Best Local Musician. Thanks to the readers of Up & Coming Weekly for honoring us with your votes! Serving home owners and renters.
