SEPTEMBER 17-23, 2014 UCW 5 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM Worst Change/Worst Use of Local Tax Dollars Road Construction/Medians Road construction, concrete medians, closed bridges and detours have been the bane of Fayetteville drivers' existence during the past year. Fayetteville is a growing city and we understand that road repair and construction are a neces- sity. However, when you are running late and road construction snarls traffic to a crawl, it is cause for frustration. And those concrete medians and yellow reflectors that have started to populate the roadway seem to make sense only to the North Carolina Department of Transportation. We don't understand them and they actually add to traffic, confusion and other problems rather than fixing them. Matter of fact, on Ramsey Street, they are responsible for the closing of several long-time businesses. Others are barely hanging on as potential custom- ers find it difficult or impossible to access their businesses. So, it is with great frustration and disgust that our readers have voted road construction and con- crete medians as the Worst Change in Fayetteville AND The Worst Use of Local Tax Dollars. Best Local Landmark Market House The historic Fayetteville Market House is the iconic landmark in Fayetteville. It has been pho- tographed countless times. Its porch has been the scene of countless family photos, musical presen- tations and even a drum circle. Residents revere it for its history, while acknowledging that all of its history is not stellar. It has become a symbol for our community and Up & Coming Weekly readers have agreed again this year that it is our Best Local Landmark.
