Eastern Blvd. 910.486.0221 www.capefearbg.org Fayetteville residents are not fickle. For the past several years, Cape Fear Botanical Garden has won the title for Best Place to Commune with Nature, and this year, it was no surprise that they won the title again. Stepping into the gardens is like escaping from the real world. From the beauty of the visitor's pavilion to the first step onto the patio, you feel yourself calming down. Wandering the natural paths and taking time to not only walk past, but discover the plants around you quiets the mind and calms the spirit. Sit quietly on one of the well-placed benches and listen to the sounds around you. Or stroll by the river and observe the old trees that line its banks. All of this brings you to a place of calm. If you want to take a break and get yourself centered, head down to the Cape Fear Botanical Garden. There is more there than meets the eye. Best Local Festival Dogwood Festival 145 Person St. 910.323.1934 www.faydogwoodfestival.com Southerners love their festivals. Our state is liter- ally rife with them. But none shines brighter, wins more awards or receives more rec- ognition than the Fayetteville Dogwood Festival. The Dogwood Festival not only brings our community together, it brings neighbor- ing communities, visitors and guests into our city to share the fun and excitement of this award-winning event. The Dogwood Festival is not just about food, music, carnival rides or the array of special events that surround it. It's about Director Carrie King's leadership and a dedicated, hardworking board of volunteers who are proud to call Fayetteville home. Each year, the Dogwood Festival Committee continues to grow, expand and improve its venues. In addition to the annual spring event, the committee also hosts the summer con- cert series Fayetteville After 5. And, this year, will introduce the Dogwood Fall Festival, which is three days of fun-filled events – starting with the highly acclaimed and anticipated Historic Hauntings and moving on to events at Festival Park, which include a haunted house, a Boo and Brew Beer Garden, Fayetteville's First Food Truck Festival and plenty of live entertainment throughout the weekend. Yes, the Dogwood Festival is a Fayetteville tradition, which is recognized statewide as superb quality, fun, family entertainment. We couldn't be happier Best Change in Fayetteville Downtown Revitalization It's been 17 years since the wrecking ball hit some of Fayetteville's most notorious downtown buildings. In the interim, downtown has matured and reinvented itself, becoming an eclectic mix of residential housing, unique shopping venues, excellent local dining options and an array of organiza- tions and small businesses. Yes, it's cool to have restaurants, yoga studios, coffee and wine shops, antique stores and museums all located in down- town, which makes it a perfect place to while away an afternoon or evening. Lifelong Fayetteville residents take great pride in this transformation, while newcomers only see the vitality of a downtown community on the rise. Up & Coming Weekly readers know where we have been, how far we have come and they look forward to where Fayetteville is going. That's why Downtown Revitalization still reigns as the Best Change in Fayetteville.
