Preserving Our Present. Building for the Future. Dear Brothers of Delta Tau Delta, The men of Delta Tau Delta have embarked on a bold new venture. The Preserving Our Present, Building for the Future campaign. As you know, Delta Tau Delta has a long and proud history at IU Bloomington. Among its alumni are many distinguished men, such as current Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard; Bobby "Slick" Leonard, coach and broadcaster for the Indiana Pacers; and American entrepreneurs Richards D. Barger, founding partner of the law firm Barger & Wolen, and Tom Gegax, co-founder of Tires Plus. Delta Tau Delta men live by a common mission, Committed to Lives of Excellence, with four guiding principles: truth, courage, faith and power. If the chapter is to persevere in this mission and remain current and relevant to new generations of students, then means of retaining senior leadership must be addressed. Consequently, a group of brothers, under the guidance of professional counsel, is organizing this campaign to challenge their brothers to step up and support the future of Delta Tau Delta. I recognize that retaining senior leadership in a fraternity house can be difficult. I support you in your efforts to address this issue by providing a facility that is state-of-the-art for the Delta Tau Delta Brothers at IU. Balancing student needs of privacy, study space, computer labs, recreation space, and food service is a challenging proposition. Students today demand a better living facility. Today's apartment complexes and University Housing facilities continue to remake student housing for the 21st century. Fraternities must renovate and adapt to stay competitive in the local housing market. The proposed addition of senior suites, a large multi-purpose room and multiple study rooms to the chapter house will be great enhancements to the living and learning environment within the house. Indiana University supports fraternity and sorority life, as it does all student involvement in leadership, community service, and other organizations. Success or failure for fraternities rests on the shoulders of the undergraduate brothers to recruit new members of character and on the alumni to provide a solid foundation. Delta Tau Delta has developed the strategy to succeed, and this new addition to the chapter house will be the symbol of that success. Since the early days of Delta Tau Delta at Indiana University, Delt alumni have been providing support to this chapter in significant amounts. I applaud your efforts in this new campaign to preserve your legacy and build the future for Delta Tau Delta at Indiana University. I stand ready to assist in any way that I can. Sincerely, Harold D. Goldsmith Dean of Students
