When we look back at our own Gamma Phi experience, we can see how the friendships, leadership, and campus involvement—even decades ago—helped shape who we are now. As collegiate members, 800 Chautauqua was our home at OU. We lived there together as brothers, as a family. That Beta family still exists today. As a family, we must fulfill our lifelong commitment to Gamma Phi by supporting the next generation we will be proud to call brothers. A lot of progress has been made so far in 2014. A ceremonial groundbreaking was held after the last day of school on May 10. The house has been totally vacated, and demolition work as started on parts of the original house that are going to be replaced, such as the bathrooms, main stairway, and kitchen. The new basement excavation and the related concrete work has started. Our vision for the renovation and expansion of our home is becoming a reality. This new home at 800 Chautauqua will allow Beta to attract the highest quality young men. The structure will also be a place we will be proud to visit when in Norman and bring our families. Loyal alumni have committed more than $8 million in support of the Honoring Our Traditions, Providing for the Future campaign, but our job is not finished. Our original goal was not going to be adequate to cover all of the cost of construction, interest, fixtures, and furnishings. The campaign committee has looked at the updated cost estimates, the progress on the campaign and has decided to revised our initial campaign goal from raising at least $8 million to resolutely setting a goal of $9 million. With estimates coming in higher than anticipated, we need to raise and collect $9 million to build the house and leave zero debt. If you have not made a contribution or pledge in support of your Gamma Phi brothers, I urge you to stake your claim now in this momentous project. I want to thank the loyal 380 brothers who have supported the campaign to date. However, we need the remaining 1,500 to participate in this campaign so we can reach our goal. Fill out the enclosed pledge card or visit http://oklahomabeta.kintera.org/donatenow to help us raise the remaining $1 million. As Betas, we know what it means to "lock up," and this is a situation where everyone needs to participate at some level. Your level depends on your individual circumstances and other commitments, but I encourage everyone to be a part of this once-in-a-lifetime event. I believe when this new building is completed, you will want the satisfaction of knowing that you helped make it happen.
