Diane lived each day to the fullest. With an unselfish heart, she sac- rificed personal desires to further the aspirations of others. Diane was born in Rutherfordton, NC, on Dec. 12, 1959, to the late Clyde and Eulala Baker. She cared for them in life and now rejoices with them in Heaven. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Ted Allen; three children, Wade Allen, of Gastonia, and Richard Allen and Emmy Allen, of the home; brother, Clyde Baker Jr., of Forest City; aunt, June Phillips, of Columbus; mother-in-law, Eris S. Allen, of Rutherfordton; her husband's aunt, Polly Nolan, of Forest City; sister-in-law and her husband, Jill and Albert Svrjcek, of Bel Air, Md.; nieces Lauren Svrjcek, of Baltimore, Md., and Rebecca Svrjcek, of Asheville; and beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. Singing in the sanctu- ary choir at First Baptist Church, Spartanburg, S.C., brought her great joy. She found encour- agement and support in worshiping Jesus along- side friends and con- fidants. Sharing the joy found in having a person- al relationship with Jesus was paramount. She had many memo- rable qualities, this being one. You never met Diane without hearing the good news of Christ. She encouraged the down- trodden by leading count- less people to relation- ships with Christ through church services, hospital stays, doctor's office vis- its, and simply by being introduced to people. She personified the adage, "Preach the gos- pel, and if necessary, use words." A lifetime homemaker, Diane devoted her life to raising her three children. She felt called by God to give birth and raise the offspring He blessed her with. They are left behind to cherish her memory and honor her legacy but will be reunited with her in Heaven. After her children became of age, she began work at the Rutherford County Senior Center. It was there that she encouraged the elder- ly, shared a joyful spirit with the discouraged and helped feed thousands of people. Celebration of Diane's life was held at the sanc- tuary of First Baptist Church, 250 E. Main St., Spartanburg, S.C., the Reverend Dr. Donald J. Wilton and Reverend Sal Barone officiated. A second visitation took place at the Padgett and King Mortuary, 227 E. Main St., Forest City, N.C. Private burial held at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery in Forest City. In remem- brance of Diane, memori- als may be made to First Baptist Church, 250 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, S.C., 29306. The Padgett and King Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. ©Community First Media Community First Media Allow me to introduce to you what I believe is one of the greatest words ever spoken by man. This gift has been initiated and supplied by God since the beginning of time. The word is Grace. As a funeral director, I observe many heart breaking situations and an immense amount of sadness when people are dealing with the loss of a loved one. Other than the sorrow, I have also had the privilege to see the grace of God working in the lives of His people during the hardest of times. What is grace? The answer is profound and yet very simple. Grace is a gift from God. There are many types or kinds of divine grace. Besides saving grace, He also gives us living grace, grace to serve, grace to forgive, suffering grace and dying grace to name a few. "Grace" is God doing something for man which he (man) cannot do for himself. One of the beauties and attractions of the Christian life is the availability and reality of the grace of God. How do you attain this grace? The only way to receive it is to simply ask for it. Humility and faith is that which unlocks the door of Grace. I believe one of the fi rst prayers God hears from us is, "Lord, I need you." In the midst of human tragedy and suffering, our loving God has offered us a gift to enable us to live and to face death with comfort and peace. We may never have all the answers to why bad things happen, but we can always have access to the strength to carry on. Grace is truly a gift from a merciful and compassionate God.
