DESSIE ELLIS HULLENDER Dessie Ellis Hullender, 91, of Cleveland County passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2011. Services were held at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel. Internment was held in Drury Dobbins Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Hullender was pre- ceded in death by former husbands, Glenn Davis and George Hullender; her par- ents, Flay Oscar and Affie Ledford Ellis; a son, William Hullender, and two infant children; and all her siblings –Ves “Curly” Ellis, Colon Ellis, Clayton Ellis, Hubert Ellis, Lois Brendle, Leecie Austin, Mary Thomas, and Betty Blanton Seay. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: Billy & Deborah Davis of Hendersonville, and Bobby and Sandra Hullender of Shelby; three daughters: Evelyn “Susie” Hullender of Fallston, Elaine Whisnant and husband Gerald, and Anita Hullender of Shelby; and 10 grandchildren plus 8 great grandchildren. Mr. Curtis served our country in the US Army dur- ing World War II in General George Patton’s Third Army. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Jolly Curtis; his second wife, Martha Julian Curtis; his parents, William Everatt and Mary Bowen “Lissie” Curtis; one step-grandson, Adam Robert Smith; four sis- ters, Minnie Padgett, Ruth Bridges, Maude Nanny and Dorothy Scruggs; and two brothers, William John “Jack” Curtis and Chivous Curtis.
