Alpha Nu 2 A lpha Nu enjoyed a successful spring semester on all fronts. We have set many goals for the fall semester, including welcoming new members into the house, renovating study areas for actives and freshmen, and continuing to excel in all areas at KU. We are excited to apply for the Knox and Sisson awards through the Beta Theta Pi Foundation. These awards recognize overall chapter excellence and are a great opportunity to highlight Alpha Nu's successes. Academic Excellence The chapter excelled academically last fall with a chapter GPA of 3.48 and a freshman class average of 3.54. Both marks were Top of the Hill for fraternities. Spring grades are yet to be released, but we are hopeful to remain Top of the Hill. Philanthropic Efforts From 5k races to nature conservancy efforts, Betas have been very active on the philanthropic front. Averaging close to 40 hours per member this year, the house has completed over 3,200 hours of community service to date. This April, Corbin Barnds '16 spearheaded the Hannah and Jayhawk Friends "Finish on the 50" 5k run, a campus- wide event that raised over $5,000 for the organization. Additionally, Colin Thomas '15 recently began the Oread chapter of Ducks Unlimited, aimed at the conservation of wetlands and wildlife by engaging KU students in outdoor service events. Thomas and a team of 40 volunteers completed a controlled burn over 100 acres of conservation and wetland reserve land this spring. Dominating in Athletics In athletics, Alpha Nu took home the Jefferson's Intramural Campus Championship title in the fall, racking up the most points through team participation and points scored. The Beta A1 team was the Greek champion in football, basketball, and softball. McCarthy Grewe '15 and Robert Keenan '15 were this year's foosball champions. Recruitment Success Through the tireless work of Cam Smith '15, Juan Salgado '15, and Grant Martens '15, the pledge class of 2018 is comprised of a very accomplished group of young men. The Hutt is lucky to have such a dedicated team of recruitment chairmen, and we look forward to having this great group of men join the chapter. Mom's Weekend The chapter enjoyed a successful Mom's Weekend this spring, made possible by the efforts of Ruth Ann Schultz and other members of the Parent's Club. The weekend's events included a delicious meal from Evan Williams catering, a wonderful performance by T-12 and, as always, a great evening of trivia with Nate Heron. Continued Excellence Although the university and campus have changed with time, the goals of Alpha Nu have not. I look forward to helping guide this chapter in the coming semester to continued excellence in academics, athletics, philanthropy, and community involvement.
