ach year the makeup of the Kansas
DU Fraternity changes thanks to
the constant stream of new pledges and
cosmetic changes to the house. However,
there are traditions of DU that continue on
over the years and create the everlasting
legacy we are so proud to be a part of.
For Phil Frerker '93, the qualities of DU
that made his time at KU so special are
still alive for the current undergraduates.
"The KU DU Fraternity is still a very
relevant institution. It helps students have
a more enriched college experience, in an
environment that encourages them to do
their best while still having time for fun."
For Phil, the Kansas Chapter provided an environment
for academic success and the beginning of a successful
career on Hallmark's senior management team, while
also allowing him to cultivate strong friendships that
have lasted well beyond the college years. While at
Kansas, Phil earned a B.S in business and history, and
he continued his education with an MBA at Rockhurst
University. He also took to heart the importance DU
placed on being involved in the Chapter
and university by serving as president,
VP public relations, VP alumni relations,
secretary, and Rock Chalk director
for DU, while also participating in
campus organizations like New Student
Orientation and Student Senate. Phil
appreciates these experiences even today,
saying, "They gave me opportunities
to work with people who had different
perspectives and ideas, while still trying
to achieve a common goal."
Phil serves as the merchandise director
for Hallmark Gold Crown stores, where
he is accountable for the merchandise strategy and
execution of a range of products in over 2,400 retail
stores in North America. He was recently awarded the
2014 Distinguished Alumnus Award, an honor he felt
undeserving of, but is honored to receive.
Phil knows that the house and fraternity he so dearly
loves will continue on its path of excellence in the coming
