FKQ CLONE PHI KAPPA THETA FRATERNITY n IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY n SUMMER 2014 GIVE, EXPECTING NOTHING THEREOF NEW GIVING INITIATIVE TO BENEFIT CAMPAIGN AND HONOR FALLEN BROTHERS Help Iowa Xi Reach $600,000 by Making a Gift Today T he renovation project has begun! After a lot of hard work and generous donations by so many alumni, we are happy to say that things are starting to become a reality. While that is exciting, we still need roughly $91,000 to complete the project as envisioned. These funds need to be raised by mid-summer to ensure we don't short ourselves on the upgrades. We would like to announce a new giving initiative that several of our brothers from the 1970s have created: Stand in the Gap. Mike Canney '75, Mike Maloney '76, and Kirk Thomas '76 designed this as a way to honor fallen brothers who have shown dedication to Iowa Xi during their time as active members and as alumni. Inspired by the recent passing of Steve "Gapper" Polito '76, Stand in the Gap will give us an outlet to pay tribute to those standout members who have entered Chapter Eternal. Standing in the gap refers to the biblical analogy of a protective wall around a city. Any gap in the wall would be susceptible to breach and would require a soldier to stand there, protecting the city and keeping it strong. Can you think of any fallen brothers who stood in the gap, working to keep Phi Kappa Theta strong? Would you be willing to do the same now on their behalf? The study room on main floor will be named "Stand in the Gap Study Room." A plaque, headed with the Phi Kappa Theta crest, will be displayed there and will have two sections: the first will list brothers who we lift up and honor as having been found to Stand in the Gap, the second will be for those who Stand in the Gap for the fallen, contributing at least $1,000 on their behalf, with giving levels mimicking those of the current campaign. Both sections of the plaque will leave plenty of open space as Stand in the Gap will continue for years to come. Contributions now will be dedicated to the Pride in Our Past, Foundation for Our Future campaign. After the renovations are paid for, new contributions will go into the scholarship fund at the FKQ National Foundation, endowing scholarships for future Iowa Xi undergraduates, including the Concannon Scholarship. Only new pledges will be considered for Stand in the Gap, not reallocation of an existing pledge to the campaign. To kick things off, Mike Canney has pledged an additional $1,000 to the campaign to Stand in the Gap to honor Steve Polito. If you wish to join Mike, please write Stand in the Gap in the "Designate My Contribution" section of the pledge form. If there is a specific fallen brother you wish to honor, please note that as well. We still have tax deductibility for total pledges (including Stand in the Gap) of $10,000 or more, although the amount is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis. Total pledges (including Stand in the Gap) put toward the campaign will still be recognized on the Pride in Our Past, Foundation for Our Future plaque to be prominently displayed in the chapter house. You can read about the man who inspired Stand in the Gap on page 3. Will you follow the lead of some of our 1970s brothers and Stand in the Gap with them for those we have lost? Together we can complete this project, protecting Iowa Xi and keeping it strong for years to come. Fraternally, Campaign Co-Chairmen Dan Ahern '85 Paul Peterson '01 (309) 361-1757 (913) 522-0271 daniel.ahern@us.abb.com paulpeterson13@gmail.com Cold air dorms on second floor are ready to be turned into two extra bedrooms.
