Chi Zetagram 4 Deceased Notices_____________________ Lawrence Gagin '39 X324 of Littleton, Colo., passed away peacefully on March 26 surrounded by his family. Larry worked 30 years as a manager of research at Johns Manville and he was widely recognized as one of the world's top glass technology experts. He is survived by his children, Jean Brown, Paula Hofmann, Larry Gagin, and Jim Gagin, eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Marion, daughter, Mary Ellen Nelson, son, Richard Gagin, sister, Margaret, and brother, Bill. George Dupre '43 X521, most recently of Stockholm, Wis., passed away April 22, 2013. Married 20 years to his beloved wife, Dolores, who passed away in 1972, he is survived by his children, Valerie, Steven, and Mark, seven grandchildren, and brother, Richard. He was preceded in death by his father, Valentine, his mother, Annette, and his brother, Lee. He proudly served in the First Infantry Division in World War II, was awarded the Purple Heart, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He met Dolores at the University of Illinois, where George received a degree in industrial engineering. He was a successful inventor and businessman, who founded two companies in Illinois. He will be especially remembered for his infectious laughter and his warm heart. Ron Bordeaux '81 X1150, passed away on January 15, 2014. A native of Peoria, Ill., he graduated with the highest honors with a BS in finance, then received a law degree from of Harvard Law School. Ron was an international tax partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers for nearly two decades in Washington, DC. A member of the Foreign Activities of US Taxpayers Committee and the US Activities of Foreign Taxpayers Committee of the American Bar Association, Ron was a frequent speaker at tax seminars worldwide and published articles on a wide array of international tax topics. All who knew Ron will long remember his curiosity and great zest for all things tax, tennis, travel and family. Ron is survived by his children, Brittany and Nicholas, mother Helen Bordeaux, brother David Bordeaux, sisters Janice Bordeaux and Donna Adams, and his former wife, Christina Bordeaux. Alumni News_________________________ James W. Stubner '39 X328 is 93 and says he moves slowly but is generally enjoying life. He has been in contact with Charlie Murry '44. James lives on Mercer Island, Wash., with his wife, Audrey. Richard T. Loewe '49 X601 wrote a historical novel published in 2000. He invented and developed a 0.2 cubic inch air compressor that mounts on a car wheel and maintains proper tire pressure by wheel rotation. He lives in Tustin, Calif. Eberhart '53 X653 celebrated his 80th birthday in 2013. He began studying at Richland Community College for two years and since has been learning on his own watching Tele Novelas on Univision. He also practices by listening to Spanish radio from Chicago and San Juan, Puerto Rico. Frank is active in amateur radio with his main interest in making contact with friends using the amateur space satellites called OSCAR (Orbiting Satellite Carrying Amateur Radio). He lived in Fort Wayne, Ind., and worked as a licensed architect one year aer graduation. He then received the Ryerson Fellowship in 1970 for GMO Study in Europe. He then worked for nine years in Ohio and moved to Seattle, Wash., in 1978, where he currently resides. He started an architectural firm in 1983, which merged with a larger firm in 1996, and he retired in 2009. Richard specialized in healthcare design for 30 years. E-mail: bhealth1@verizon.net Dr. Lawrence L. Jeckel '70 X934 is self-employed as a practicing psychiatrist. He and his wife, Nancy, live in Champaign, Ill. E-mail: jeckel@illinois.edu Dan Nelson '70 X1097 is recovering well from his recent medical emergency and hopes to be returning home later this spring with a prognosis for a slow but full recovery. On Christmas day last year Dan suffered plural life-threatening brain aneurisms that le him unresponsive and on a ventilator. As a result of the trauma, Dan was placed in an induced coma for several weeks and remained in critical condition. Fortunately, Dan and his wife, Patti, daughter Molly (6) and twins Sean and Megan (2) live in Manhattan Beach, California, near several world-class medical facilities, including the UCLA research hospital, so he received the necessary immediate care. Aer months in the ICU Dan was weaned from ventilation and began intensive speech, physical and occupational therapies, which are continuing today. Although he is working to regain full stamina, balance and mobility, Dan has recovered his wit and would love to hear from you! Dale has run 11 marathons and has biked 10 300 miles in three days to raise funds for Make-a-Wish Foundation. He and his wife, Lisa, live in Midland, Mich., with their four children.
