b usiness EYES TO THE FUTURE Community stakeholders’ decade of ideas and work reaps benefits for all | By Jason Brady P Left | Fayetteville’s Chamber of Commerce building is the hub for keeping the community connected Top | Historic downtown is the home to many businesses affected by GFF II initiatives eople will gather this June to develop a plan to make the Fayetteville area a better place to work, to live and to raise a family. They will come from all walks of life. They will be young, old and in-betweeners. They will be rich and not so rich; and they will be diverse in ethnicity and culture. But they will have one all-important human characteristic in common: They want to make their community better. This significant event will be the third such gathering in the past decade – a decade marked by tremendous economic, cultural and spiritual growth. The catalyst for this renaissance is the Greater Fayetteville Futures, a decade old grass-roots endeavor to catapult a formerly economically stagnant and self-debasing community into one with economic prosperity and topped with a slice of American pride and patriotism. In the beginning The genesis of the Greater Fayetteville Futures came in 2001 when community leaders realized that it takes a committed citizenry that is willing to invest its time and talents to make the city a better place for all. From that womb of commitment, Greater Fayetteville Futures began to aggressively shape our community’s destiny rather than sit idly by and let fate determine the future. The quest for a better future came through the efforts of hundreds of volunteers giving thousands of hours of their time to design a plan of action for success. CityViewNC.com | 21
