Hobsonway, Blythe, or by calling 760-922-8166. by Joanne Winer In spite of the heavy winds last Saturday morning, our very fi rst event at the amphitheater in Celia's Rainbow Gardens was held. Al- though only a few people braved the cold and winds, everyone who came was enthralled with this beautiful, spiritual and haunting music by some great fl ute players. The Quartzsite Flute Circle is based in a studio belonging to Mark Church, who invites anyone who wishes to learn the fl ute or just wants to watch at his weekly jam sessions at his studio. He came to the bookstore last month and asked us for permission to use the amphitheater to hold a fl ute circle there, and invited everyone to attend--playing a fl ute or just watching. The wind made short work of the canopy he tried to put up, and we had to hold the rugs down with rocks. The table which held the CDs etc. kept blowing all over, but it was so worth all the aggrava- tion just to hear this very talented group play some Native American and other songs on their unique instruments. We only stayed an hour, as the wind kept getting worse, but those of us who were huddled up on the seating areas were amazed that such soulful notes could come out of a hollow piece of wood!! Two ladies from the Yuma County Flute Circle made the trip up to play at this event, and Bob Braa, VFW com- mander, also played some great tunes, and of course, Mark Church did a lot of his music as well. We are talking about doing this event again in the fall when there are more people here, and hopeful- ly the weather will cooperate--we may even do it once a month if we can work the schedule out--so, if you missed this opportunity, there will hopefully be more coming up and you won't want to miss it--the Gardens was the perfect backdrop for this haunting music, and it was a great event in spite of the wind!!! For information about Flute Circle, which meets every Saturday, please call Mark Church at Redfeather Rose Studios, 760-220-0013. Thanks very much to Mark and Cindy Church. Bob Braa, and the ladies from Yuma (didn't get their names, sorry) and to the hardy folks who braved the wind and cold to hear them!!! ...and the show went on anyway! QUARTZSITE, AZ - The Quartzsite Police Department took part in the DEA's National Prescription Drug Take-Back Initiative last Saturday, April 26th. With the participation and support of our community and snowbirds, we were able to col- lect 90.40 lbs. (excluding weight of packaging) of unused/expired prescription medications for destruction. That is 90.40 lbs. of medicines that won't be abused, be dumped into our water system, or sit in a landfi ll. Thank you to those who participated. The Quartzsite Police Department will continue to accept unwanted medications Monday-Friday 9AM- 5PM. For more information on the importance of this event, please visit http://www.deadiversion. usdoj.gov. Please take the time to talk to your children/grandchildren about the harm caused by medi- cine abuse and educate yourself on the signs of abuse. Please visit DEA's interactive website for further information at www.JustThinkTwice.com and www.GetSmartAboutDrugs.com. QPD collects expired/unused prescriptions
