the lion's roar Chapter Makes philanthropy a top priority WELCOME CHEF BENNETT We are overjoyed to have a new chef in the kitchen, Jimmy Bennett, who has brought a new zeal to our daily meals. Our brotherhood feels more united due to eating lunch and dinner together. We enjoy restaurant-quality food for every meal, boosting morale and reviving interest in living in the house. Alumni are always welcome to stop by 28 Madbury for a meal with the brothers, you will not be disappointed. TAGGING FOR TEAM TREVOR Our brothers continued the fifth annual Tagging for Team Trevor, a two- day event bringing in $1,700 for cystic fibrosis (CF) research. Trevor is the younger cousin of Scott Haskel '12 and was diagnosed with CF at 5 years old. We are happy to support Trevor in his mission to find a cure and treatments for CF by providing donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. CONTINUING ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE The chapter is proud to announce that we attained a cumulative GPA of 2.98 for the last semester, which ranks us third among all fraternities on campus and above the all-university average amongst men. Hard work by brothers and strong motivation from Scholarship Chairman Michael Workman '15 keep us in good standing with the University and ready us for a hardworking future after graduating. A VERY PHILANTHROPIC SEMESTER NH Beta organized great philanthropy events this semester with Treble with a Cause on April 8 (an a cappella show raising over $1,000 for local public schools' music programs); Grilling for a Cure on April 26 (grilling a variety of donated meats in conjunction with the University's May Day and raising money for Children's Miracle Network); and Relay for Life (raising money and awareness for the American Cancer Society). RELAY FOR LIFE 2014 The weekend of April 12, brothers volunteered at Relay for Life, a 24- hour event where each brother volunteers four hours of their weekend to help the committee run the event and walk the indoor track for our team. The event is the largest fundraiser at University of New Hampshire, raising more than $125,000 every year for the American Cancer Society. This was the fourth year we have had nearly every brother present at this event, and our own Rishab Khanna '14 served as the president of the committee responsible for pulling the whole thing together. The event allows the brotherhood to volunteer for a total of 300 community service hours and raise more than $1,400 in one weekend. TRANSITION TO MEMBER EDUCATION PROGRAM Our chapter has hit the ground running with the radical changes we are facing from Nationals. The removal of the traditional pledge process has proved to be a bit controversial, but we respect the decisions made by our Supreme Council, trusting that they were made with the best interests of the fraternity. With a new program called the True Gentleman Experience and membership development in place, we are confident in our ability to keep all of our members invested in the chapter. The instatement of a new program allows us to redesign our entire education program to match perfectly with GPEP (the University's Greek Performance and Excellence Program). Next year every event we have for our new and old members will be aimed towards the areas we are currently lacking in GPEP points. NH Beta's executive committee is dedicated and working hard to ensure the transition is as smooth as possible. By doing so, we will preserve our chapter's values, traditions, and reputation. Join Us for Homecoming W e are excitedly preparing for next fall's Homecoming event. Things are a bit different this year as the University evaluates where tailgating will be allowed, but we are expecting to have formal tailgating take place beginning at 10 a.m. Any returning alumni will have parking available at the chapter house. Brothers will be available to give house tours and escort any alumni to the festivities. Following the end of tailgating, we will return to the chapter house for a pig roast served by Chef Bennett. If you would like more information or to RSVP, please contact Alumni Relations Chairman Shaun McKernan '14 at (603) 686-0762 or spl63@wildcats.unh.edu.
