The spring is always active for Pike with philanthropic activities, great socializing and sending off our 34 graduating seniors. Our membership now exceeds 140 men, including 35 newly initiated brothers in December 2013, as well as seven new spring members in our pledge education program. In addition to a strong brotherhood, academics remain a priority at the Pike house. The overall Pike membership GPA is 3.2 per the University's most recent semester rankings, placing our men fifth of the 23 IFC fraternities at Texas. alUmni helP with Career advisory sessions Between semesters during the holiday break, brothers enjoyed alumni-led career advisory sessions in Houston and Dallas. The chapter is grateful to dr. marc Boom '85, CEO of Houston's Methodist Hospital System, for hosting a lunch, lecture and tour of his impressive Medical Center area main hospital in early January. Six attorney alumni also led a lunch discussion for Pikes interested in law school and legal careers hosted at the office of van Beckwith '84. In late March, sam dawson '80 spoke to Pike engineering students about preparing for careers in various engineering fields. roUnd UP weeKend a hUge sUCCess The spring semester social agenda began with the annual Pikes Peak winter-themed party in early February and Round Up Weekend in March, with more than 1,000 guests at the house to enjoy a performance by popular emerging country western group The Casey Donahew Band. The chapter welcomed a number of alumni to Austin for a March 1 Founder's Day barbecue dinner and reception. We will close out the semester with a spring formal, only to prepare for a robust summer rush program. PhilanthroPy remains strong at PiKe Several philanthropic volunteer activities have occurred this spring, such as participating for a third year in Texas Exes' The Project, a weekend of service in the Austin community. Pikes gave back to the community in 2013 successfully staffing an October Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation event and a December event preparing care packages for soldiers serving overseas through the Caring for Camo organization. The chapter was pleased to send several Pikes to the February Pike University sessions in Dallas led by the international fraternity. Beta Mu members met other regional Pikes and learned best practices to keep our chapter performing highly. Beta Mu is well into its 10th decade at the University of Texas at Austin. There has never been a better time to have pride in being an active member or an alumnus of Pike Beta Mu Chapter. The chapter invites all alumni, friends and family to visit whenever in Austin. Pike raises the Bar at U.t. this spring Chapter Reports Strong Brotherhood, Academics, Spring Initiation, and Philanthropy Efforts Left: Rush Chairmen Sean Dunn '13, Zach Carrabine '11, Jake Webb '12, TJ Weido '12 and Will Wakefield '12 are already hard at work identifying prospective rushees for the fall.
