Page 3 T he undergraduate brothers are charged up by the news of being reinstated as of May 1, which shaved two years off our suspension and allowed us to resume normal operations. We have had an excellent year and feel that the additional momentum from this endorsement will contribute to our momentum going forward. MEMBERSHIP Our membership continues to expand. After growing substantially in the fall, we initiated two more men in February and an additional four in April. As a group we are very excited about what is on the horizon, but we fully understand the responsibility that comes along with being reaffiliated with UNL. PHILANTHROPY Our strong philanthropic activities have continued unabated. The Chapter has been particularly involved over the past few months in community service. With the help of our alumni, other donations, and our holiday event we have donated more than $2,000 to the Huntsman Cancer Institute, and we hope by the end of the year that number will surpass $4,000 for cancer research. We have teamed up with another campus organization, STAC (Students Together Against Cancer), to maximize our impact. I'm pleased to report that our Chapter has now accomplished over 430 hours of community service this year and we fully expect that we will log substantially more hours before the end of this next term. We have also teamed with Habitat for Humanity in Lincoln to help construct houses for the needy. We also hope to have the best chapter attendance for the second straight year for the University's philanthropic Big Event, benefitting the city of Lincoln. LEADERSHIP The Chapter recently attended an inspiring annual province workshop in Iowa City, Iowa. More than 20 brothers made the trip, an exceptionally high percentage of our membership. Through the workshop, we were able to continue to develop our Chapter strategic plan and gain some new perspective from our brothers from Drake, Iowa, and Iowa State. GOALS Our single greatest goal this year is to receive our first Peterson Significant Chapter Award since 2002, acknowledging our excellence in operations and developmental programs. This is one of the most challenging and prestigious awards given by Sigma Chi to its undergraduate chapters. We have been very intentional in terms of implementing the kinds of leadership programs required and are very confident that our overall performance makes us an excellent prospect for receiving this recognition. RECRUITMENT We have elected a strong and highly motivated recruitment team, Ky Veney '17 of Lincoln and Josh Johnson '16 of Fairbury. Ky and Josh will be exceptionally dependent on referrals from alumni to execute a first-class recruitment program. We have most recently been on our own without IFC support as a result of our sanctions, yet we managed to be successful in building our ranks with good young men. We are now even more encouraged that we will be an integral part of IFC-sanctioned recruitment, and the benefits that come along with that. We are respectfully asking for alumni referrals, pointing our rush chairmen to a few good men. Ky can be reached at (402) 802-2828 or ky.veney63@gmail.com and Josh at (402) 587-0104 or jjohnson3512@gmail.com. Please contact them, your referral will make a real difference in giving us a competitive edge in rush! The Chapter is strong and the path we are on is a successful one, but we all understand we must continue to work hard to advance the interests of Alpha Epsilon beyond May 1. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. The door at 1510 Vine Street is always open, and we are very eager to visit with our alumni brothers and to show off the great facility that you, our alumni, have provided for us.
