Beta-Tau Chapter Continues Upward Momentum T he active members of Beta-Tau came into this year under extreme pressure from outside stakeholders. Numbers were low, we were in serious financial debt, and it seemed nothing but barriers were in our way. We took these roadblocks as a challenge and I can honestly say that the Chapter is now on a steady rise. Chapter Improving Academics Our academics and GPA were nothing to brag about last spring. With the help of Brother Aaron Hollingshead '99 and Baker Greek Life Coordinator Jennifer Letner, our scholarship chairman took this opportunity to revise our entire program. This change has already resulted in a significant rise in our overall GPA. Beta-Tau Welcomes New Members Last fall, Beta-Tau initiated six new members into our brotherhood. We believe these four new initiates were among the best in the bunch. All fraternities struggled with members after fall recruitment, so IFC organized the first Greek-wide spring recruitment. Our Chapter took that as a challenge to grow in quality members. The hard work paid off with four new initiates and a handful more that will consider Kappa Sigma in the fall. Leadership Practices from Conclave Andy Kelley '11, Aaron Stewart '12, and I attended our national conclave last summer in Las Vegas. In just one week, we learned many new techniques and practices that benefitted our Chapter. So far, these new strategies have shown a positive response within the Chapter. Kappa Sigs on Campus Every member is involved in at least one other organization on campus. Brothers are involved in everything from sports to philanthropic and community organizations. Specifics of our involvement include football, soccer, golf, basketball, theater, St. Jude- sponsored Up 'til Dawn, orientation leader, UAA, band, choir, IFC, and Student Senate. Being involved with so many teams and organizations makes Kappa Sigma proud to say we are the most diverse Chapter on campus. Actives Heavily Involved in Intramurals Brothers have also participated in all intramural opportunities Baker offers. While we may not be the best team, we are fun to watch and always have fun. This year we have teams competing in football, indoor soccer, 3v3 basketball, and 5v5 basketball. We have high hopes that our volleyball or softball team can bring home those intramural champion t-shirts. Grand Scribe Aaron Stewart '12 Hays, Kan. Recruitment Chairmen Jesse Miller '12 Olathe, Kan.
