Investing in Lives for Enduring Returns DTD Zeta Sigma Chapter I Delta Tau Delta Fraternity I Texas A&M University I Spring 2014 Aggie Delt the i hope this newsletter finds you and your families well as we launch into 2014. The house corporation has moved forward with many projects and events since our last newsletter. As you are aware, we cancelled the December 20-year anniversary due to inclement weather, and have rescheduled it for this spring. We plan on a great turnout and some great activities, so see the back page for additional information and make every effort to attend. As I noted in our first newsletter last year, this chapter has made great strides and is well respected on the A&M campus. Delts are one of the largest fraternities at Texas A&M and the future looks bright with large pledge classes committing to be a part of our brotherhood each semester. There have not been many changes to our staff for this coming year; however, we are still eagerly looking for additions to the house corporation and would love to have your involvement. Please let me or someone on the board know if you are interested in becoming part of our organization. The house itself is in great shape thanks to a lot of time and effort from actives and alumni this past summer and fall. We finally completed the "Road Project" after years of agony and pain. It was a sizable investment, but with the help of Nationals and the local chapter, we were able to get this done and, as a result, have improved our standing with our neighbors and now have a fine entrance to the Shelter to enjoy for years to come. Again, please make every effort to come out and see for yourselves what this group has to offer and what this chapter has developed into—you will be quite impressed. We all appreciate your involvement and contribution. After an investigation, the chapter was charged with several significant student rules violations based on the allegations. In mid-December, the chapter was called to participate in a University Greek Judicial Board hearing for the charges. Prior to the hearing, Delta Tau Delta National Fraternity and local Zeta Sigma alumni conducted a full internal investigation and agreed unanimously that to best prevent further hazing activities from occurring, and to pro-actively self-sanction, an alumni supervisory committee was formed to oversee all chapter operations and conduct a full review of the membership. The University Greek Judicial Board issued the following additional sanctions: • Chapter on probation for both the spring and fall 2014 semesters. • Chapter to present hazing session to IFC in both the spring and fall 2014 semesters. The university appreciated the chapter for taking full responsibility for its actions, and the strong pre-emptive measures of the membership review and the formation of the alumni supervisory committee.
