"I had a relationship with many of the brothers and was very impressed with the enthusiasm of the brotherhood to be the most reputable fraternity on Purdue's campus." Bill took pride in being a member of the Beta Phi Chapter and served as the house manager, recruitment chairman, vice president, and president. "We were always very highly respected as one of the top three fraternities on campus. I lived in the house for three and a half years in the early '90s and was able to experience firsthand the impact a newly remodeled house had on recruiting top men into the fraternity." Bill earned his bachelor's degree in building construction technology in 1995 and is now the owner of Michael Kinder and Sons Inc., a fourth-generation family business serving the design and construction industry, with his partner and brother Doug. "I got started in construction at a very young age through the family business. Through many internships and employment at a couple of premier Chicago companies, I truly developed a love for my career and must say it was my dream job when I was a kid, and still today I feel like I am living my dream." Bill and Doug began working with the Chapter in the early stages, prior to fundraising, to provide programming and budgeting to reflect the necessities and the desires to set fundraising goals. Their firm donated the work to install the new columns on the front of the house and set a goal to continue the improvements once fundraising goals were achieved. "Over the past two years our firm began design work in accord with funds donated and continue today to refine as brothers step up and make their donation to allow for additional upgrades. It is not too late to make your donation as we still have many other upgrades we can incorporate if funds become available." Bill said he is most looking forward to "seeing the years of hard work by such a dedicated Foundation board, Home Association, and generous brothers come to fruition for all, and most importantly to see our fraternity maintain its upper echelon status in the Purdue community." For Bill, supporting the campaign is rooted in his undergraduate experience. "My commitment to the capital campaign stems directly from my days at the house when I personally had the opportunity to enjoy the renovations and updates completed in the early '90s. Over the years, I learned that stewardship is not just giving of your treasure but also your time. I have watched too many of the same brothers' names being posted in Pike newsletters as the same guys doing all the work, and simply felt it was my turn to get involved. We don't look back often enough to realize where we came from and how we got to where we are today. Simply in looking back during my time at the house, I met my wife, received my career degree, and made many of my lifelong friends. Where else are three of the most important aspects of your life going to be molded?" Bill and his wife, Lisa, a former Purdue Silver Twin, live in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and have two children, Brook and Billy. "In closing, I would like to challenge every brother to look back and reflect on your time spent at Pi Kappa Alpha and the impact the fraternity and Purdue had on your life. I am sure reminiscing will bring back many great memories. I then challenge you to think about how you can get involved to give back, whether it be volunteering time or donating funds to allow others to have the same opportunity."
