Candlelight Page 2 T his has been a great year so far for the Beta Phi Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha! We started in the fall with a completely full house with 64 members living in and a new member class of 27. We continue working very closely with the Boys and Girls Club of Lafayette. At least once a month the Chapter makes our way over to hangout with the kids for a few hours. We make crafts, play games, and give the kids an older brother to look up to. Last semester we were proud to host our second annual Pikes for Strikes bowling philanthropy. Seven sororities and four fraternities competed in a bowling tournament and helped us raise just under $1,000, which we donated to the Boys and Girls Club to help improve their facility. This semester we plan on returning for an Easter egg hunt much like we did last year. Another big event we have coming up is our second annual Pikes Fireman's Challenge. We have been working very closely with the Purdue Fire and Rescue Department and hope to double our proceeds donated to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. We are working very hard to make this philanthropy become the biggest on campus and I cannot wait to give you an update on how it turns out. Another big event Beta Phi was pleased to be a part of was Purdue University's Dance Marathon which raised over $1,000,000 for Riley Children's Hospital. We are pleased to announce Pi Kappa Alpha was the highest contributor from all fraternities on campus donating almost $17,000! This past semester we did very well in athletics, winning a few intramural championships, including intertube water polo and both indoor and outdoor volleyball. They no longer do a point system, but we feel confident that our athletics will be top three if not the best. Our grades unfortunately fell to a 2.68 this past semester. We are looking to see what can be changed or focused on so that we can improve next semester. If you ever want to relive your memories at 629 University, feel free to stop by and meet the brothers. We are always happy to see alumni come back to the house and hear stories. Please contact me anytime with any questions or ideas you have for our Chapter. It's a great day to be a Pike! In the Bonds, Greg Dyer '13 Chapter President purduepikepresident@gmail.com W e want to extend a very special invi- tation to our 12th Annual Pike Reunion Weekend. A major Chapter House renovation will be com- pleted this summer and ready for the undergrad- uates to move in with the beginning of the Purdue fall semester. This major renovation has been seven years in the planning and fundraising. We sincerely appreciate the Beta Phi brothers who have contributed to this project and encourage all Purdue Pikes to come back for this special weekend. We will provide special tours of the Chapter House since the renovation includes all the floors of the house. Under sepa- rate cover all alumni will receive promotion flyers detailing all the weekend events and a reservation form. A block of tickets will be purchased for the Purdue versus Wisconsin game that weekend. As Beta Phi Pikes have enjoyed a great brother- hood experience at our Purdue Chapter House, please plan to attend the special events being planned for Friday eve- ning and before and after the game on Saturday. We have tried to capture our past history in our new alumni room. Come back Novem- ber 7-9 to connect and reminisce with your brothers and see all the improvements in our chapter house.
