Page 3 Delta upsilon S ean Biggs '98 was an exceptional DU brother who graduated from KU with a bachelor of science in civil engineering. He then earned his master's in technology and policy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Sean settled down in Boston, where he got married and had two children. He kept busy with his family life and his work as a leading energy analyst with Cambridge Energy Research Associates. Although busy, he still found time to run six Boston Marathons with a sub-three hour finish. Sean was diagnosed two and a half years ago with stage IV cancer, later subcuming to it in 2012. In his memory, Nate Bukaty '98 founded the Sean Biggs Memorial Foundation and BIGGsteps Annual 5k. Nate says that "Sean was the kind of brother that every DU chapter in the country should look up to. He was one of the first two people I met at KU and will always be one of my best friends." Nate understands it is easy to go years without seeing some of your closest friends and pledge brothers after graduation, but the annual BIGGSteps 5k gives Delta Upsilon brothers a chance for an annual reunion and to celebrate the sacredness of life. The BIGGSteps Foundation raises money for an endowed fund at the KU Cancer Center for Cancer Research. It also raises money for an engineering study abroad scholarship because Sean became the first KU engineering student to study abroad in Germany. Last year the foundation raised $75,000 in Kansas City and $20,000 in Boston. This year's Kansas City BIGGSteps 5k will be held September 22 at the KU Edwards Campus. The Boston BIGGSteps 5k will be held October 11. The foundation's board of directors are President Nate Bukaty, Vice President Jill Clements, Treasurer Emily Mitchell, Secretary JP Gerritz '95, and Member-at-Large/Boston Liason Dave Jilek '97. If you want to make a donation or help the Foundation in any way, contact information can be found on www. biggsteps.org, Sean Biggs Memorial Foundation on Facebook, or by contacting Nate Bukaty at nbukaty@mac.com.
