Brother Steve Koziolek '83 hired me there and has been a mentor ever since. He took a chance on me primarily because I was a Brother (those who knew me back then know it wasn't because I was a polished professional). I worked alongside Brothers Matthew Prigge '84 and Nick Lilleberg '94 during that time and learned a lot about the business. Because of the job at BASF, I met my wife in Raleigh, North Carolina, and we are now living back in Spicer, Minnesota, with our daughter, Claire. Brother Scott Manwarren '93 found me a rental shortly out of college in Northfield, Minnesota. I became friends with Chad Holz, a blood brother to Brother Chris Holz '98, who came to the house shortly thereafter. While in town, I became friends with Brothers Dave Mathews '98 and John Larson '99 and those friendships remain today. Those interactions were many years ago, but it is amazing how I still interact with those people today because of Lambda. This summer Brother Michael Laskowski '11 interned for BASF. I learned he was a Brother and that was all I needed to know that he was a great man. I couldn't have been happier with his performance. BASF sponsored the Celebrate Ag and Food Day at the University of Minnesota on September 14, and my contact remembered me from college as his wife was from the hometown of Brother Korey Bigalk's '92; I received favorable ad placement because of it. Brother Paul Wilcek '92 helped me screen for a potential employee last month; Brother Mark Waschek '89 is now recruiting for BASF because of our interaction at Founders' Day this spring. I work with the Anez family (numerous Brothers) on my farming operation because of Alpha Gamma Rho. Brother Dale Hecht '95 and I ran into each other a few weeks ago and reflected on common friends and the industry. I interact with many Brothers from other chapters across the U.S. as well, and the bond has a lot of strength even years after college. I realize that everyone had different experiences at Lambda, and I wanted to pass along mine. My time there was more fruitful than I could have imagined. When I stop to think about it, I realize there is no way I couldn't give back to such a wonderful organization. Please reflect on your time in the house and think about the lasting relationships you have because of it. If you can make a pledge, please do, but at a minimum, please pass along your story of Alpha gamma Rho and inform other Brothers on the development of this project. It is an exciting time for Lambda and this project will continue the legacy that was created before us and continues to enrich so many lives.
