Tradition The Alpha-Phi Zeta's Since 1917 Spring 2014 ANOTHER STRONG FALL FOR ALPHA-PHI IN THE BOOKS New High Zeta Team Promises Successful 2014 O ur Chapter is strong with current active membership at 106. Last fall we initiated 42 new brothers into our bond, now having initiated more than 1,730 members. The ritual was performed well by our undergraduates according to Brother Tom Lackey, AF957. Tom observed the event with his father, Fred, AF471, and son, Phillip, AF1436, as these three generations of Alpha-Phi brothers watched nephew Reece Baugher become Brother Baugher, AF1690. Our Homecoming event was well attended, especially for an early morning kickoff. House Director Becky Schuler did a bang-up job of coordinating the food, beverages, and decorations. Our young men performed admirably, as well, and they made strong impressions with the house clean-up and their personal presentation. Scholarships were awarded to Tyler Evans, AF1641, and Tanner Olson, AF1618, from the Zuma Scholarship Fund and to Zach Temple, AF1666, from the Charles McPherson Scholarship. Special thanks to Charlie Mac for continuing to award a $3,000 scholarship for the last several years. Brother James Hogland, AF1195, earned the Jerry Dean Hillman Outstanding Alumnus Award. Brother Hogland has served on House Corporation for several years and was especially recognized for his efforts from idea to construction of our new entryway. For the last few years, our undergraduate Chapter has elected to forgo a spring associate member class and their strategy appears to be sound as they have delivered several strong fall classes of 40 or more quality young men. Your help is always appreciated to identify possible new members and especially legacy candidates. Please take the time to send recommendations to our High Deltas listed on page 2. If you will also copy me, I'll make sure we follow up on opportunities you may present. Special thanks are extended to the numerous alumni brothers that answered the call in our recent solicitation. You've helped fund greatly improved Internet speed and coverage for our men studying at the house. Hopefully, your donations will directly support our Chapter's ongoing goal to improve their G.P.A.! In closing, I'd like to thank our former High Alpha, William Walsh, AF1582, and his team for their leadership and commitment to make the past year so successful. New High Alpha Corey Cialeo, AF1639, and his team are already busy at work making Alpha-Phi Zeta one of the top fraternities on campus and your House Corporation will continue to offer strong support to enable their success. Thanks for your loyal support! Fraternally yours in Z.A.X., William V. "Butch" Camp Jr., AF888 House Corporation President (404) 310-2258 | bcamp1@bellsouth.net A lpha-Phi Zeta thrives as one of the leading fraternities at the University of Alabama. Last semester our Fraternity achieved an overall 2.90 G.P.A. and our High Sigma, Evan Ryland, AF1628, plans on implementing academic incentives for our brothers to improve their grades. Our intramural sports teams also were very impressive last semester. Our flag football team was one of the top five and our soccer team placed third. With our presence in multiple leadership positions across campus and dedication to academics, Alpha-Phi Zeta boasts an impressive group of young men.
