The new members participated in numerous service projects, including Feed My People on Tuesday and Thursday mornings feeding the homeless at University United Methodist Church in downtown Austin. The progress of the new addition has been exciting to watch on a daily basis. The active Chapter is very grateful to those of you who have contributed to the project and particularly to Bobby Orr PC '75 and Kevin Snodgrass PC '78 for their tremendous efforts in the fundraising campaign. We look forward to the completion of the house this coming fall; the pledge class of 2012 will have the privilege of being the first members to live there. The first recruitment event of the semester was Studio 54, a disco- themed party at the end of February. The newly elected recruitment team includes Stuart McLaughlin PC '12, Max McKamy PC '12, Davis Atkins PC '12, Jack Pellegrin PC '12, Luke Schreiner PC '12, and Assistant Recruitment Chairmen David Duncan PC '13, Bennett Campbell PC '13, Jack Eltife PC '13, and Brian Bell PC '13. We are confident in the ability of this group to recruit a strong class of young men who exemplify the character of our Fraternity. As in the past, the team will be making fundraising trips across the state this summer. We appreciate all of the graduate support and encourage you to join us in your hometown. Sophomores Andrew Campbell PC '12, Alan Young PC '12, and Truman Biggs PC '12 were given the opportunity to attend Fiji Academy this January in St Louis. A three-day event, Fiji Academy educates attendees on the traditions, leadership, and operations of the national Fraternity. In November, the Chapter received an outstanding report after hosting the field secretary for his visit and will be preparing for another visit this spring. The Chapter took part in several philanthropic events last fall. The most significant was our participation in the Austin Race for the Cure in November, organized by brothers Matt Luna PC '11 and Zach Dorflinger PC'11. Our team was the largest registered team of students and raised over $10,000. Pig Dinner is right around the corner, April 12, and we hope to see another strong turnout of graduates from all generations. As always, never hesitate to swing by the Fiji house when you're in Austin; graduates are always welcome. We hope to see you soon! GTBO, James Uhl PC '11 Chapter President juhl216@sbcglobal.net The junior pledge class was graciously hosted by Dallas parents for the Texas-OU Red River Rivalry weekend. SUCCESSFUL FALL 2013 FOR ACTIVES (Continued from page 1) RecRuitment team HaRd at WoRk T he recruitment period has started once again and the Texas Fiji recruitment team is hard at work! We are honored to have the responsibility of recruiting new members to ensure the strength and longevity of our Chapter for years to come. We have begun the process of meeting high school seniors and compiling a list of candidates and will soon begin inviting them to events in Austin. Recruitment began this February with the Studio 54 party. After Studio 54, we participated in the university-sponsored Round-Up on March 20-22. The weekend included the Ivory P. Huff Low Hoop Classic (a charitable basketball tournament), live bands, and a crawfish boil at Buen Retiro. It was a great time for students and guests alike! During the summer, we plan to host weekly events for incoming freshmen. Events will include dinners and other activities during orientation sessions, as well as our annual New Orleans recruitment trip during the weekend of June 27-29. The New Orleans trip is a great opportunity for actives and incoming freshmen to get to know each other outside of the typical Austin environment. After the New Orleans trip, we will take several trips to ranches across Texas, where will we continue the conversation with prospective members. At the end of July, we will host the famous Texas Fiji Island party, where Buen Retiro will once again be covered with sand and become an island oasis with live bands on the front porch. We are very excited about all that this semester and the summer have in store. We are grateful to graduates who have participated in the recruitment process in the past, either through financial contributions or by recommending prospective candidates. If you have not joined in during past years, we strongly encourage you to get involved by attending a reception in your hometown or by contacting one of the recruitment chairmen below. We hope you are all doing well and look forward to meeting you soon. Perge!
