I
n February I participated in the first Eminent Archon (EA) Institute
in St. Louis. EA Institute was created as a mini Leadership School
for EAs to discuss best practices and issues our beloved order faces
nationwide. From being so involved in the fraternity since pledgeship,
I have been privileged to attend multiple Greek leadership events
from Indiana University's Greek Emerging Leaders conference to the
Province Psi Leadership School and I am sure that the most beneficial
was my weekend spent in St. Louis.
The Institute was organized by Brother James Irwin, Louisiana Chi
'05, and included more than 120 EAs from across the realm along with
the majority of the Supreme Council. The atmosphere brought out the
pure fraternity zeal that I'm sure all Indiana Gamma members felt dur-
ing the most climatic parts of their membership. For me, the greatest
value came from making connections with EAs from chapters with
similar chapter and school size. Great discussions came from these
meetings allowing us to confide in each other with similar problems
and develop possible solutions. The theme of the Institute was how the
fraternity is at a crossroads after having a series of risk management
situations. The instability of SAE's reputation may bring radical chang-
es from the national fraternity. Despite troubles realm wide, Indiana
Gamma continues to teach our new members in the correct manner and
strives to become the best chapter we can. I assure you that you will not
be ashamed to call yourself an Indiana Gamma SAE.
Fraternally,

SAE Cycling Update
T
he Indiana Gamma Bike Team continues to make great strides
bringing our cycling program back to the elite status that we have
enjoyed through the years.
It has been a very difficult task to restart this program after the
recolonization, but all of the riders deserve a lot of credit for their efforts
and dedication, placing 27th in 2011, 29th in 2012, and 18th in 2013.
After the 2013 race, the team dedicated themselves to an intense summer
training schedule. Once school started it was helpful to have the riders
living under the same roof in the new house. The training continued
with the Hilly Hundred, Fall Series Racing, and a lot of long, hilly miles
throughout the Bloomington and Lake Monroe landscape. Winter hit
pretty hard. And when the weather was bad and safety was a concern, the
guys continued their training in Gamma's state-of-the-art indoor cycling
facility. In early January, the team drove to Tallahassee, Florida, to get
back outside and continue their training. The weather was a little colder
than anticipated but the team got a great week of training in.
Qualifications will be held on March 29 with individual time trials on
April 2, Miss and Out on April 5, and the Little 500 on April 26 at 2 p.m.
As usual there will be a pre-race alumni tailgate on April 26 from 11 a.m.
to 1:30 p.m. directly across the street (west) from the outdoor pool, so
come join us. The team is very excited about this year's race and expects
a top 10 finish!
Also, as in year's past we are raising money to help fund the team's
expenses and would appreciate your contributions. We have been lucky
to have some generous alumni and we thank them and encourage others
to step up and support the bike team by sending a donation. Checks can
be made out and mailed to Jim Fissinger at 8444 Spring Mill Court,
Indianapolis, Indiana 46260.
Lastly, below are the members of this year's bike team. Please e-mail them
with words of encouragement and support. They have worked extremely
hard for Gamma and would appreciate hearing from you.
