Knightly News spring 2014 Sigma Nu Fraternity s UNIVERSITY OF southern california G reetings, Sigma Nu brothers and friends. The Sigma Nu house on West 28th Street is still standing and looking great. There are 34 young men in the spring pledge class, and there are a growing number of alumni engaged with all things USC Sigma Nu. Life is good in SoCal! It has been very enjoyable being part of the rebirth of the building itself, as well as our Sigma Nu alumni brotherhood. Looking forward, it looks like the house will be completely full this coming fall, which helps us maintain our strong financial position. This allows us to adequately fund each of the Holding Corporation priorities: 1. Keep the Sigma Nu house in great shape. 2. Pay down our debt, while keeping strong reserves. 3. Underwrite Sigma Nu alumni events. 4. Make strategic contributions to USC. 5. Fund various local chapter events. 6. Make contributions to Sigma Nu National. Friends, I am delighted to report we are on solid ground! I am extremely grateful for all the individuals and the circumstances that have contributed to our present situation. Fraternally, Greg Yoder '79, EO 901 President EO Holding Corporation gyoder@cbiz.com (408) 591-6738 T he fall semester of 2013 was an incredible ride for the brothers of Epsilon Omicron and taught us lifelong lessons we are truly thankful for. Despite facing an ever-changing social culture within the university, the gentlemen of Sigma Nu found ways to strengthen brotherhood and develop the fraternal bonds we have been so fortunate to be a part of. By focusing more internally, we were able to dedicate our efforts to constructing an incredible semester for the 19 new members of the fall pledge class. After numerous brotherhood events such as Big Bro Night, the Pledge Camping Retreat, and Candle Light Dinner, we are thrilled to officially welcome them into the Chapter and are extremely proud of how much they have grown both individually and as a cohesive group. Appropriately, Epsilon Omicron saw one of its strongest endings to a semester by hosting our 40th annual Christmas Bonfires. Highly regarded as one of our dearest traditions, the weeklong philanthropy raised over $2,000 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. We collected boxes full of toys for Toys for Tots and brought what seemed like the entire Greek system together to enjoy the spirit of the holidays. After such an amazing fall semester, we knew 2014 had a lot to live up to. As president, I could not be more proud of how well we carried the momentum of the previous semester into the new year. Through the ongoing commitment of each brother during recruitment week, we are thrilled to welcome the 34 candidates to the spring 2014 pledge class. As a direct result of the hard work put forth by our recruitment chairmen and the entire Chapter, we are grateful to have gathered the largest pledge class of the entire Greek system, nearly tripling the spring average of 12 pledges. Furthermore, Sigma Nu has branched out externally more than ever, boasting three m e m b e r s o n t h e I n t e r f r a t e r n i t y C o u n c i l , numerous members in Student Government, and a weekly tutoring program with the nearby 32nd Street School. After only a couple weeks, the brothers are already confident in the amazing accomplishments and lessons the spring will bring. The future has never looked brighter for the gentlemen of Sigma Nu. I am sincerely blessed to be a part of the extraordinary experiences and growth happening before my very eyes. If you are ever in the area please stop by the Chapter House and see firsthand the achievements of Epsilon Omicron.
