Honoring our History, Building our Future T he Delta Tau Delta experience at Gamma Pi is about our brothers. It is about the bonds we formed as young men, the memories we treasure, and the friendships we maintain today. It is certainly more than the bricks and mortar of the Shelter. Yet our home undoubtedly played a significant role in the academic and social development of our brothers and is a proud symbol of shared values and goals. Today, perhaps more than ever, college fraternities impact the lives of young men. Delta Tau Delta provides a small-group living environment offering our members a solid foundation for their education and affords opportunities for high academic achievement and the development of leadership and social skills. How many of your Gamma Pi memories occurred in the Shelter? We've gotten everything we can out of our Shelter. Built in 1953, with major additions constructed in 1969 and 1993, the Shelter is part of the Gamma Pi legacy. Additional capital improvements were made between 2000 and 2008 to repair and replace structures and systems that had reached the end of their useful life and to remain current with existing technology. Those short-term, strategic investments bought us time. In 2008, the Gamma Pi House Corporation began a long-term assessment of the Shelter. After consultation with our architect and major building system vendors, it became clear that we needed to make a major investment in the future of Gamma Pi and our Shelter. The need to maintain a competitive, modern facility, provide a quality living environment, and provide facilities to support continued academic success led to the decision for a new facility at the current location on Sunset Drive. Working with the RDG Planning and Design architectural team in Ames, the Gamma Pi House Corporation has developed a plan for a facility to meet the chapter's needs for the next 100 years at Iowa State. Hopefully you remember the story of the Bridge Builder (Will Allen Dromgoole, 1931) prominently displayed in the Shelter, which poignantly lays out the responsibility of those that follow to prepare the path for the upcoming generations. Will you help us build a bridge for the next generation of Gamma Pi brothers? HOW GAMMA PI GOT HERE: OUR NEEDS AND OPPORTUNITIES
