Quartzsite Town Council selected Skylor Miller as new Town Man- ager during their regular meeting Tuesday, February 11th, 2014. Council members stated they were very impressed with both candidates Miller and Robert Wherry. Council members each spoke respectfully the reasons they preferred one candidate over the other. Four council members were leaning towards Miller while three leaned towards Wherry. When the vote was taken, six members voted for Skylor Miller. Mayor Ed Foster was the only dissenting vote. Both candidates attended the Interviews held during Monday's executive session. Miller was not present at Tuesday's selection, as his fl ight back to Ohio had already been scheduled. Town Attorneys will negotiate the contact with Miller. Council will hold a special meeting Wednesday, February 19th to discuss details of the contract, and have a work session on con- fl icting town codes. Miller has been working for the past eight years as Assistant Town- ship Administrator/Zoning Admin- istrator of the Fairfi eld Township in Ohio. Mayor Foster reported to Quartzsite Business Chamber of Commerce that Miller won't be available to start until the begin- ning of May, however that news had not been released to the public. According to his LinkedIn account Miller's interest include Local Gov- ernment Administration, Land Use Planning, Land Use Law, Clean Water Initiatives, Mobile Technologies, Family, Health & Fit- ness, Traditional Archery, Canoe- ing, Leisure Reading. He is ex- pected to receive a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Dayton this spring. In 2006 Miller received his BA in Urban & Regional Planning from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Miller told Desert Messenger he fell in love with the desert as soon as he drove west from Phoenix. He has two young children and looks forward to settling down in Quartzsite. Shortly after being notifi ed of the council's selection, he posted on Facebook a photo of himself standing in front of the Hi Jolly Monument.
