Lauren Delzell '12 and Rachel Schatz '12 with members of Sigma Pi during the Tau Chapter Dinner with DGs. H appy new year from Tau Chapter! I hope this newsletter finds you well. Just as there are exciting things on the horizon for the Chapter, last fall was equally eventful for Delta Gamma at Iowa. DG Has successful HomecominG One of the first big events of the semester was Homecoming week, which was held September 29 through October 6. This year, we were paired with the men of Delta Tau Delta. Throughout the week, we participated in many events, including a blood drive, relay races, and creating a float for the parade. We placed first in one of the bigger events called Shout. Shout is a co-ed dance and skit that takes weeks to prepare for and attracts hundreds of spectators. We have initiated a plan for these upgrades, in addition to numerous other projects. In order to complete these projects, we will need the support of all Tau alumnae. I ask that you think back on your time in the house and the years since and remember the significance of Delta Gamma in your life. For me, I hold the friendships I made through DG in the highest regard and hope to pass that same experience along to future generations. Last week, I heard from a very dear Delta Gamma friend. Nancy Tate Walton, Gamma Theta '70, and I met in 1982 when we both moved to Denver, Colorado. Not knowing anyone in the area, we had both contacted Executive Office to find a Denver- area alumnae group for us to become a part of. Another alumna picked up both of us and took us to our first of many Delta Gamma alumnae meetings. Nancy and I, along with many other brand new Denver alumnae, have shared all parts of our lives over the ensuing years: marriages, divorces, new marriages, book clubs, gourmet groups, job changes, vacations, health issues, children, and deaths. Nancy had called to let me know that both of her parents recently passed away in Florida. I knew her parents well from all the Denver visits, Florida trips, and holidays that I shared with them. Delta Gamma, no matter what your chapter of initiation, is the bond that holds all of us. I cherish all my Delta Gamma friendships near and dear to my heart. One of the pearls of knowledge that I try to communicate to the current collegians is that Delta Gamma is way more than the four years spent at Iowa. Way more. Aren't we all so enriched by the women that we have met through Delta Gamma and call our sisters? I know that I am.
