giving back to alpha gamma O ur investment in the future of Alpha Gamma will ensure the success of our fraternity and will promote a legacy upon which to build an even greater brotherhood. Today, perhaps more than ever, college fraternities play a relevant role in shaping the lives of young men. This is especially true in Oxford, with the University boasting an impressive Greek membership rate of 35% among undergraduates. Against a backdrop of membership in some fraternities soaring above 200, Alpha Gamma has an opportunity to provide incoming undergraduates at Ole Miss a destination to hone leadership, academic, service, and social skills in a smaller-group living environment. As a fraternity similar in size to "mid-sized" fraternities, Chi Psi can offer our members a solid foundation for their education and also opportunities for high academic achievement—while maintaining a quality and quantity of membership competitive with all fraternities. The undergraduate men will be expected to maintain a commitment to work hard in preserving the programs and traditions that have benefited the lives of so many Alpha Gammas over the years. However, this stage of our project requires assistance from all alumni. Gifts in honor or in memory of other Alpha Gamma alumni, as well as family and pledge class gifts, are welcome. Recognition in such cases will be given to both the donor and honoree. Gifts of securities are also encouraged, as there are often significant tax advantages to the donor. The Internal Revenue Service will allow exclusively educational space in the newly constructed Lodge to be funded with tax-deductible dollars that are gifted to the Alpha Gamma Foundation of Chi Psi. Gifts to the foundation are tax deductible to the donor. Additionally, the foundation can, on an annual basis, grant the Alumni Association of Alpha Gamma (Building Fund) an amount that covers the taxes, insurance, and maintenance on the portion of the building deemed by the IRS as exclusively educational space. However, the educational space and amount of tax deductibility is limited and donations are greatly needed to the Building Fund. NoN-taX-dEdUCtiBlE GiFts NEEdEd. Since only a portion of the project is deemed exclusively educational, there is a large need for contributions that are not tax deductible to complete the project with minimal borrowing costs. Therefore, we strongly encourage all donors to consider making to their gift to the Alpha Gamma Building Fund. to help donors make the largest gift possible, each alumnus may spread his gift over a five-year pledge period. However, early gifts to the campaign are preferable to help reduce borrowing costs. Executive Director of Chi Psi Fraternity Sam Bessey and Daniel B. Alhberg, M.D., N '67, prepare to present the new charter on November 2, 2013.
