The AVTT Traveling Wall will arrive in Quartzsite on Wednesday, March 5th. Public viewing of the wall will be available 24 hours a day after the initial set-up on the morning of Thurs- day, March 6th through the afternoon on Sunday, March 9th. At 360 feet in length, the AVTT Wall is the largest traveling replica of the orig- inal Vietnam Memorial Wall located in Washington, D.C. It is an 80 percent scale reproduction which stands eight feet tall at its apex and does not leave out a single name featured on the original memorial wall. The walk route is still being devel- oped; however, rest assured that it will include as many of Quartzsite's special highlights as can be fi t into the 10k route. There will also be a 5k route for those who prefer a shorter walk. Volksmarches or volkswalks began in Germany in the 1960's—these are noncompetitive walking events where everyone is a winner just for complet- ing the event. In more recent years bicycle, swim, snowshoe, and other events have been added, and they all fall under the heading Volkssports. Volkssport events are the perfect companion for travel—whether local or around the world! Wherever you 5k/10k Volkswalk planned March 8 go, you can fi nd a walk route to see the local sights. A goal of many volkssport- ers is to participate in events in all 50 states and many then move on to participate in other countries. Participants can walk for free; or, for a small fee, walkers receive a stamp in their offi cial American Volkssport Association record books. When the record books are full, they are sent to the American Volkssport Association in Texas and then you receive a patch, hatpin and certifi cate indicating your level of participation. Keeping the record books is a fun way to track your progress and becomes a journal of your travels/walks.
