This month, several newer authors are coming here for the fi rst time, and some who have been here before are coming back again. This past week, two new authors have been set up and greet- ing people--Angie Riley and Alfred Figueroa. Angie Riley is a Canadian author from Victoria, British Columbia, and has written the fi rst of a series of children's books about "Sophia Firecracker", a precocious 9 year old who thinks she is a superhero. This delightful story will appeal to children of all ages and adults as well--it is humorous and lots of fun to read. Angie will be at the book- store every Friday, Saturday and Sunday till the end of the month. Come and meet her and you will love her sense of humor!! Alfred Acosta Figueroa is a very special man from Blythe Ca., who has written one of the most interesting books on this area of the Lower Colorado River. He has chronicled the history and the stories behind the ancient earth fi gures or intaglios (also known as geoglyphs) along the river, and his mission is to make people aware of the destruction of these ancient and sacred areas and hopefully get them declared National Historic Monuments so they will be protect- ed. These intaglios, some of which include the Bouse Fisherman on Plomosa Road, and the Blythe Intaglios, on Hwy 95 north out of Blythe, have been here for cen- turies, and are part of the Native American culture and beliefs, and he is hoping to teach people about them. Alfred will also be doing a talk at the Quartzsite Library on Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. so please come and meet him at the bookstore or check out and talk at the Library. He is a delightful man, and very passion- ate about his mission to save and preserve these wonderful pieces of history. His book is called "Ancient Footprints of the Colorado River" and it is fi lled with maps, photos, and stories--anyone who loves his- tory will enjoy this work of art. These are just two of the new au- thors who will be at the bookstore- -along with many of the other great authors that are still here--drop by and meet them--they would love to show you what they have written!!! The Quartzsite Public Library is holding a Mid-winter book sale on February 11th, from 8 am to 4 pm. Come join us for our book sale. Lots of new books, Arizona High- ways, Bead magazines, and lots of other magazines, Cook books, Children's books. Puzzles, paper- backs. Videos and some foreign language books.
