Imag- ine being at Bulgari and getting distracted by someone else's jewels! We immediately hit it off and made plans to meet in her Tribeca studio so I could see more of her work and find out about how she became a designer/ private jeweler. As soon as you see the custom- designed peacock door handle at the entrance of Featherstone Design, you understand that this is not your aver- age jewelry destination. Open the door, and you're greeted by two of Deirdre's favorite things – her canary yellow Porsche speedster and violet Harley motorcycle, parked next to antique furniture, rugs and other collectibles. Her love for cool tones – lush greens, blues and purples – and her affinity for peacocks is immedi- ately evident in the décor of the space. Beyond the cozy parlor is the work- shop, where her friendly team of bench jewelers and support staff obviously share a deep passion for the business. Deirdre's "thumb armor," one of her many unique pieces that caught my eye when we first met.
