editors LOVE STORIES R omance comes easy in February and March. Valentine’s Day hits us over the head with the message of love and, as if that weren’t enough, it’s hard not to feel romantic when evidence of spring begins to poke through winter. This issue is chock-full of romance and spring, from the real love stories on page 22 to the love-as-a-work-of-art story of Dave and Gail Gilbert on page 18. Many of you readers submitted your own happily-ever-after stories (thank you for that, by the way) and, I must say, I am humbled to read about the romances taking place all around us. My own engagement was a bit less breath-taking. My husband and I lived al- most 1,000 miles apart while we were dating, so ring shopping wasn’t easy. He came through, though, and the day before I was due to fly home for my bridal shower, FedEx delivered my engagement ring to my office. The accountant for the newspaper where I worked had noticed that I kept checking with the front desk for a package and so I told him what I was waiting to receive. When the ring arrived, Joe, the accountant, intercepted it and gathered a group of my co-workers. I turned around in my chair to see all of them surrounding Joe, who was down on one knee with the ring box in his hand. It was unorthodox, but hey — we were married eight years ago on March 8, so it worked.CV S 10 | Feb/March • 2011 tuck on ideas for your Valentine? For me, flowers die and are overpriced this month. Chocolate – I consume it daily, especially dark. I appreciate quality time and sentimental things. Nothing says love like a mix tape – uh, I just dated myself. Luckily it’s simple to create a playlist and drag it into an iPod. Of course, like a fish, I’m drawn to anything sparkly and shiny too. The stories in this issue are tied together with a common thread, love. From food, local business, relationships, decorating tips and helping others – it is an honor to cover the multitude of stories in our town. CityView is always evolving.
